JOB SUMMARY


The Education Specialist is a public-facing role that develops and facilitates educational programs on human trafficking to service providers, stakeholders, and the public across the province of Alberta.

This position will require an individual who is able to jump in feet first, excels at communication and public speaking, and can work both independently and collaboratively with the Program Team.

PLEASE NOTE
ACT Alberta will consider one of two options for this role:

  • One full-time (37.5 hours per week) employee, or
  • Two part-time hours per week) employees based in northern and southern Alberta, respectively.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


The Education Specialist actively participates in the Program Team; they set and maintain a standard of excellence in demeanor, communication, and work ethic.

In a public-facing role, they must exercise exemplary diplomacy, patience, and collaboration with a variety of stakeholder groups.

**Education: - Develop relationships and educational practices with stakeholders across various sectors and communities in Alberta, as approved by management.

  • Support the Director of Programs and Education Team Lead in the development of ACT's educational materials, ensuring that content is engaging, accurate, traumainformed, and personcentered.
  • Pursue opportunities in rural and urban areas of Alberta to present educational content and develop relevant and impactful partnerships.
  • Deliver educational presentations and workshops and report on all outcomes.
  • Develop publicfacing materials pertaining to antitrafficking education for use in ACT Alberta's collateral, including website and social media content.

Coordination and Outreach:

  • Project manage all educationrelated administration, including managing the education calendar, scheduling training, engaging with potential and current participants, and stewarding relationships through thoughtful communication.
  • Support in the collection of program data and developing program reports.
  • Support with administrative duties, community engagement, and public outreach.
  • Other related duties as assigned. This is a dynamic position in a small organization that requires all staff to wear many different hats and occasionally support each other in any of our projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in Education, Public Health, Human Services, Communications, or a related field.
  • 24 years of experience developing, facilitating, and delivering training and educational materials.
  • Experience working with adult learners.
  • Experience working with content/material of a sensitive nature, particularly as it pertains to social services and/or vulnerable demographics.
  • A Class 5 nonGDL driver's license, a clean driver's abstract, and a personal vehicle that can be used for work purposes with $2 million liability insurance are required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, including some overnight and multiday trips. Occasional driving as part of work duties.
  • Ability to access rural areas that may include unpaved areas/roads/pathways.
  • Ability to carry and set up materials (brochures, books, etc.) for information table displays.
  • Occasional time outside in all weather conditions.
  • Continuous extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking (sometimes up or down stairwells).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Indigenous communities; knowledge of the Treaty 6, Treaty 7, and Treaty 8 regions of Alberta would be considered an asset

This includes:

the territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (including Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, the Tsuut'ina and the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations); the Cree, Sioux, and the Saulteaux bands of the Ojibwa peoples; and the Métis Nation within Region III.


  • Understanding of human trafficking and related issues; experience working on complex social issues and genderbased violence.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Excellent scheduling and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build impactful external relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office 36
  • English proficiency is needed to succeed in this role. Ability to speak a second language an asset.
