We are seeking a Director, Operations for our Oakville, Ontario facility.

JOB PURPOSE:

To oversee the Operations at BWXT Precision Manufacturing Inc in Oakville. The primary goal is to optimize BWXT's profitability through strategic allocation of resources, while upholding safety, customer deadlines, and quality standards.

This role reports to the VP, Components and directly supervises Shop Operations, including Production, Operational Process, and Program Management teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivate a safety-first culture as a top priority.
  • Establish strong partnerships with customers and suppliers as needed.
  • Ensure customer contentment and devise plans for enhancement.
  • Uphold compliance with customer and BWXT quality benchmarks across all operations.
  • Meet structural schedule and delivery obligations.
  • Outline intricate manufacturing strategies encompassing processes, facilities, equipment, workforce, and capacity.
  • Offer guidance and assistance to department heads in their daily tasks, encompassing Production, Program Management, and Operational Process.
  • Lead the machining and welding operations of BWXT products, guaranteeing alignment with relevant code prerequisites and customer specifications.
  • Supervise the planning and scheduling of machining and welding activities to ensure streamlined production management.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to the operations management team, emphasizing continual improvement and skill enhancement.
  • Work with department leaders to ensure alignment with quality, code, and customer standards in manufacturing processes, systems, and finished goods.
  • Assess employee performance and offer additional guidance and assistance as necessary.
  • Accountable for reaching set milestones in line with established objectives; establish or maintain internal control systems to ensure answerability.
  • Oversee project execution within manufacturing to ensure cost-efficient outcomes.
  • Analyze current production methodologies and costs, making recommendations for enhancements.
  • Formulate, update, and control favorable budget plans for cost centers; participate in periodic budget evaluations.
  • Review workload and determine workforce needs for cost centers.
  • Ensure efficient and effective onboarding and training processes.
  • Surpass yearly revenue commitments or targets.
  • Utilize defined metrics to guarantee objective attainment and collaborate with leadership to institute new measures when required.
  • Implement new manufacturing techniques, methods, systems, equipment, and facilities to drive continuous process enhancement, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
  • Adhere to BWXT policies, ensuring effective workforce planning to meet production demands and bolster employee relations.
  • Promote continual enhancement through a range of manufacturing tools such as lean six sigma.
  • Consistently convey and embody the organization's vision and values.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Holder of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field with a broad business acumen, or equivalent.
  • Extensive 15 years' experience in precision manufacturing within an OEM environment; background in CNC Machining is advantageous.
  • Prior involvement with nuclear power generation products is a plus.
  • Thorough familiarity with and dedication to quality and safety initiatives.
  • Skilled in devising complex manufacturing strategies covering processes, facilities, equipment, workforce, and capacity.
  • Strong managerial, leadership, and coaching capabilities, with experience in motivating diverse teams towards success.
  • Proven track record as a proficient problem solver and decision-maker.
  • Excellent at building relationships, communication, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated success in planning, executing, and achieving strategic growth plans.
  • Ability to collaborate, foster strong team bonds, and ensure unified efforts towards common objectives.
  • Proven success in driving positive cultural change and enhancing organizational efficiency.
  • Robust leadership skills emphasizing clarity, direction, and answerability.

The starting base salary range for this role in Ontario is expected to be between $133,000 and $184,000 annually. The final salary offer is contingent on local market conditions and candidate-specific factors like expertise, skills, experience, and other relevant business considerations. Additionally, the complete compensation package may include supplementary elements such as an annual performance bonus, along with an array of medical, retirement, and other benefits. Specifics regarding participation in these benefit schemes will be provided upon extending a job offer.
