The Inspections & Health Compliance Unit (IHCU), Licensing & Compliance Monitoring Branch directly monitors over 1000 accommodations, to ensure compliance is met with applicable legislation, i.e., Resident and Family Councils Act, Continuing Care Health Service Standards (CCHSS) and Long Term Care/Supportive Living Accommodation Standards.

Many of these accommodations have unique problems that require a flexible approach to ensure they are in compliance with requirements.

In addition, IHCU monitors Alberta Health Services (AHS) CCHSS auditing practices of AHS contracted facilities, to ensure alignment with Ministry legislation/regulations, standards, and departmental policies.

IHCU teams actively participate in the on-site audit reviews and facility investigations of varying complexity under the direction of the Director/Manager.

The primary objective of these audit reviews is to strengthen accountability to the public by providing assurance that the health care system and internal operational controls are working effectively, enforced, and that the quality of care and delivery of the health standards.


Role:


Reporting to a Regional Manager of Inspections and Health Compliance, in this position, you will be part of a dynamic team of health compliance officers and inspectors.


The health compliance officer provides clinical and professional expertise on infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, monitors compliance, and conducts audits of the Continuing Care Health Service Standards (CCHSS) in all publicly funded continuing care health service settings and programs.


Health compliance officers also review Alberta Health Services audit data and investigate reportable incidents and non-compliances/complaints related to CCHSS and the IPC standards.


As a health compliance officer, you provide clinical compliance monitoring, leadership in quality assurance, and risk management practices to ensure the safety and care of patients and residents across Alberta.


Qualifications:

A university degree in a health related field and four (4) years of related experience.
Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college if required by the Health Professions Act.

Experience is required in:

  • Clinical experience in a health care setting.
  • Infection Protection and Control (IPC).
  • As an educator or quality lead in a clinical setting; preferably in continuing care
  • In conducting clinical inspections and surveys/audits.
  • Experience in a regulatory environment.
  • Working with accreditation bodies, applicable acts, regulations and legislation.
  • Course completion for Foundations of Administrative Justice
  • National Certified Investigator and Inspector or completion of equivalent program
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)

The following are considered asset:

  • Direct experience working in health, social care facilities and continuing care settings.

Equivalencies may be considered:

  • Diploma related to the position assignment (health) and six (6) years of related experience. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college.
  • Master's degree related to the position assignment (health) and three (3) years of related experience. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college.
