Child and Youth Instructor at YMCA of Northern Alberta provides quality instruction to Child and Youth sport, recreation, art, and preschool programs to participants (2-17 years). They are directly responsible to the staff, members, volunteers and public to provide successful program delivery. Daytime, evening and weekend shifts are available

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work and communicate with staff, volunteers, and members.
  • Address participant (parental) feedback, and concerns in a timely manner, following YMCA expectations.
  • Facilitate highquality programs and activities for participants by providing ageappropriate activities.
  • Supervise members and volunteers during programming, manage behavior in accordance with the child guidance policy. Member etiquette is to be monitored and reinforced.
  • Ensure programs start and finish on time.
  • Regularly inspect equipment, and ensure appropriate actions are taken to maintain it.
  • Ensure all safety documents are completed accurately, including signin and out procedures, head counts and maintaining ratios.
  • Comply with the Centre's emergency response and procedures by; participating in an annual review of emergency procedures, act as needed to ensure a safe work environment for staff and volunteers.
  • Provide opportunities for members to learn and develop in spirit, mind and body. Consistently represent YMCA's values and mission, encourage a healthy lifestyle, participation of others by helping by their respective means, enrich the quality of programs and services

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is an asset.
  • Early Childhood development, coaching, recreation or related experience is an asset.
  • NCCP Level 1 or 2 is an asset.
  • High Five Certification is an asset
  • Certifications: Standard First Aid & CPR-C
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector check.
  • Must obtain employer specific WHIMIS and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
