Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Urban Native Youth Association Full time

Who we are:

UNYA has been supporting the health and wellbeing of Indigenous youth in the Metro Vancouver area for over 30 years.

As a respected non-profit, charitable organization, we recognize Indigenous youth as experts in their own lives and strive to provide youth with programs and opportunities that are relevant and meaningful to them.

At Urban Native Youth Association UNYA, we have developed a Philosophy of Care foundation, drawing from best practices.

These philosophies are the grounding framework that shapes all of our decisions and every interaction we have with the youth we serve.

Following these philosophies empowers our staff to meet youth where they are at, by giving them the ability to balance flexibility and structure.

This allows us to meet our youth's needs, and ensure that our youth experience a consistent quality of care across all UNYA programs.

Our 5 key philosophies are:

  • Trauma-Informed Practice
  • Two-Eyed Seeing
  • Harm Reduction Practice
  • Youth/Person Centered Practice
  • Culture as Therapy

Highlights of this opportunity:

UNYA's Jordan's Principle Service Coordinator is in need of an Administrative Assistant to help with the administration of UNYA's Approved Request Contingency (ARC) Fund, as well as assist with the overall administration and delivery of the Jordan's Principle Program.

The Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Jordan's Principle Service Coordinator.

The position is 40 hours per week and regular hours will be Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm, however, these hours may occasionally shift based on the needs of the program.

The Jordan's Principle Service Coordinator is responsible for helping Indigenous youth and their families navigate the full range of existing federal and provincial health, social, and educational programs and services to address a child's needs.

If a gap, delay, disruption or deficiency in services or supports is apparent, the Service Coordinator will assist youth in the preparation and submission of a Jordan's Principle and Inuit Child First Initiative.

The ARC Fund is a third party payments initiative that enables partner organizations to issue payments for approved requests submitted by their Service Coordinator to alleviate the administrative burden and delays.

The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for the coordination of payments to parents/guardians and service providers on behalf of Indigenous Services Canada - liaising with requestors and ensuring accuracy in funding processes, data collection, and reporting.

The Administrative Assistant will also provide program support to the Service Coordinator and liaise with Indigenous Services Canada representatives.
