Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a seeking a Fitness Coordinator I for Student Affairs- Recreation.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Management, design and delivery of a comprehensive fitness and wellness program that includes fitness centers, program development, staff hiring, mentoring, and training, as well as supervision of student and part-time employees. The main programming area will be the fitness/wellness group fitness class program provided for students, members, and staff.
  • Ensures the delivery of safe, effective, inclusive, equitable and innovative fitness & wellness programming and serves the university community of Rutgers, New Brunswick campus through the department of Recreational Services and the Division of student affairs.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, or health related field.
  • Two years of related experience.
Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership, customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Competency and experience in group fitness management and instruction.
  • One or more current group fitness certifications from a nationally recognized organization.
  • Must be proficient with a variety of office, database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs, and competent in quickly navigating and learning modern technology platforms.
  • Current Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer or its equivalent including a first aid and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) component or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Should have a current driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Yoga (200+), Spinning, Zumba, or Pilates. NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) personal trainer, NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) strength and conditioning coach or USAW sport performance coach.
  • At least one year of experience managing fitness programming for a large athletic, recreation, or wellness center.
  • Experience in the training and mentoring of college students in leadership roles.
  • The ability to be proficient in using DSE , Fusion, the University payroll and onboarding system, Smartsheet, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Bookings, Teams, and the University purchasing, payroll and onboarding system.
  • Familiarity with a variety of fitness and assessment equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The ability to provide group fitness instruction. It requires the strength and ability to move equipment such as bars and mats.
Special Conditions
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends as needed.
