Duties:

  • Maintain various sites by trimming vegetation, leveling trail surfaces, repairing boardwalks or painting
  • Interacting with our visitors to enhance their outdoor adventure

Work environment:


Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.


Intent of the process:


Some of these positions may be funded by the Youth Employment Skills Strategy (YESS), which aims to create temporary employment opportunities for youths from 15-30 years of age who are facing one or more barriers to employment.

Barriers may be any part of your past or present experience that makes it difficult to obtain or maintain meaningful employment.

Degree equivalency

Experience working or volunteering on maintenance or construction projects.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job):

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of maintenance activities (vegetation control, grounds keeping, painting or cleaning).

Ability to interact with visitors;
Ability to adapt to a variety of situations and changing work locations;
Ability to lift and handle equipment and materials of varying weight;
Ability to hike various distances.

Reliability.

Required to wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy;
Required to wear appropriate protective clothing;
Willingness to work varied hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime;
Willingness to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions;
Required to physically perform strenuous work and walk extended distances while carrying a load up to 50lbs;
Willingness to travel in watercraft.

Conditions of employment:

Possession of a valid class 5 Driver's Licence.
