We are hiring an experienced Senior Project Accountant to join our Finance team.

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Project Accountant is responsible for the overall accuracy and timely processing of accounting transactions specific to the Next Generation 911 (NG) project.

Working closely with the Program Finance Lead, the Senior Project Accountant is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and related functions, as well as supporting to transition of the NG Program accounting to the E-Comm team during sustainment.

In addition, the Senior Project Accountant assists in the preparation and processing of financial information related to monthly and quarterly financial statements and in the preparation of year-end working papers, and makes recommendations for improvements to accounting systems.

Provides monthly reporting of capital assets, salaries, expenses and prepaid expenses to the NG Program Finance Lead
Provides finance assistance with project change orders, assists in the budgeting process, as required
Reviews, approves and posts various reconciliations; reviews and verifies accuracy of accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger transactions; ensures project reporting from the project team reconciles back to the General Ledger on a monthly basis and prepares general ledger account analyses and reconciliations
Ensures that balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a timely basis, develops and manages General Ledger dimensions to better track project expenditures where appropriate
Ensures the appropriate accounting treatment and tracking of any project related funding is completed
Assists with the transition to sustainment of the NG911 project and preparing any ongoing reporting requirements

Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual project related journal entries included but not limited to reallocations of staffing to capital, overhead allocations etc.

prepares various monthly internal management reports including variance reports and other financial and qualitative analyses
Assists in the preparation of year-end working papers and liaises with E-Comm auditors during interim and year end audit on project related accounting matters; prepares analyses and reconciliations as required; assists the Accounting Manager with financial analysis and special projects as required, and may act as back-up for same
Assists with developing and improving project reporting, provides information and support to department managers and staff on accounting matters; Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts, familiar with and understands work of NG911 Program Finance Lead to provide back-up coverage where necessary
Minimum of 5 to 7 years' related progressive accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field
Professional Accounting Designation
Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures related to the work performed
Knowledge of legislation, policies, and audit procedures applicable to the work
Demonstrated ability to conduct financial and qualitative analyses and to exercise sound judgement in interpreting and processing accounting information
Demonstrated ability to prepare various financial statements and reports and to work with computerized financial modeling, accounting and spreadsheet applications
Ability to participate in the review, development and implementation of new and modified accounting systems, policies, procedures and processes
Ability to guide and review the work of staff engaged in accounting work
Strong communication skills with the ability to present accounting financial information effectively orally and in writing
