What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:

• participate in the coordination of the Park educational program on an on-going basis

• provide leadership and training to staff who carry out a variety of technical duties and program responsibilities

• assist with the development of publications (e.g. park tabloids, trail guides, interpretive brochures, website content)

• assist with the development, organization and coordination of park interpretive programming, special events and guest speakers

• contribute to the research, preparation and delivery of interpretive programs

• assist with working with First Nations contacts regarding interpretation and information sharing in relation to First Nations

How do I qualify?Mandatory
• must have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent, the offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired

• ability to obtain a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate

• ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule

• ability to work in inclement weather and travel extended distances by vehicle to deliver extension programming

Technical expertise:
• knowledge of the native and invasive flora, fauna, geology, meteorology and astronomy of Ontario

• knowledge of standard ecological principles, theories and procedures

• knowledge of natural and cultural resource protection principles and procedures as they apply to provincial parks

Communication and interpersonal skills:
• proven communication skills to disseminate complex scientific information to a variety of stakeholder audiences, specifically educational groups, and to provide excellent customer service

• strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with the supervisor and group leaders and report on work progress on a continual basis

Educational knowledge:
• knowledge of educational curriculum, interpretive principles, techniques, and common practices

• ability to communicate with educational representatives and to attend educational institutions off-site to deliver educational and interpretive programming

Equipment knowledge:
• ability to operate, maintain and perform routine service to a variety of audio-visual and photographic equipment, information kiosks, interpretive displays and other communication devices

• ability to operate a variety of resource management/research field equipment, such as GPS locators, weather stations, water chemistry meters, data loggers, and general field equipment

Analytical and organizational skills:
• organizational skills to organize workload and ensure assignments are completed within deadlines, and to work independently when away from the park setting

• analytical skills to determine urgency of matters, assign priority and to develop and implement procedures
