Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) through the operation/use of heavy equipment, particularly during seasonal needs (i.e. snow plow operations), and any other needs as per the contract requirements. This position necessitates a highly developed sense of safety awareness and perceptive ability. You must have the ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks and make adjustments to avoid loss, injury or accident. You must be able to communicate safety instructions with co-workers, think clearly and prioritize your safety in your immediate surroundings when using tools and equipment or operating machinery. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) relevant to your job must be worn.

We are looking for Snow Plow/Seasonal Equipment Operators for the October to April period.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities and Key Deliverables

For Winter Season - Snow and ice removal using appropriate equipment, including salting and other seasonal maintenance on roads, bridges, etc.
For Summer Season - Maintain and repair roads and other surfaces, including signs, guardrails, fence, lighting, potholes, striping, adding or replacing reflectors, litter and debris removal.
As Needed

  • Traffic control setup and removal
  • Transport crew and equipment to job sites
  • Availability for emergency response rotations as required for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • All other assigned duties

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Effective communication (in English), verbally and in writing with colleagues and supervisors
  • Perform basic mathematical functions
  • Consistently adhere to all policies and procedures
  • Understand instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form, and interpret documents like safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Capable of working in a rapidly changing environment
  • Utilize hand and power tools, traffic control devices, and various equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers, and others used for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of related work experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industrial repair, equipment operation with a DZ license

Certifications and License:

Valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and clean driving record/AZ license advantageous

Physical Demands

  • Regularly stand, sit, walk on various surfaces, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, talk, and hear. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and handle manual and powered tools and equipment. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus.

Work Environment

  • Routinely exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, high places, and various particles. Frequent exposure to chemicals, insects, and infrequent exposure to reptiles/rodents. Moderate noise levels in the work environment, occasionally exceeding moderate.
