Overview

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a national museum dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights.

It is the first national museum in Canada to be built outside the National Capital Region.

Located in the heart of Canada in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the CMHR rises from the Prairie earth at The Forks, which has been a meeting place for over six thousand years.

The CMHR delivers an immersive, interactive and memorable experience for visitors of every background, age and ability.

Each visitor has access to a fully reinvented museum experience that reflects a design approach that sets new Canadian and world standards for inclusion and universal accessibility.

_About the role_

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is centered around the idea that respect and understanding of human rights can serve as a positive force for change in the world.

The Gallery Host will collaborate with others in the organization to support our collective efforts to build a workplace culture that is inclusive, equitable, innovative and focused on inspiring action.

Reporting to the Manager, Program Delivery, with daily supervision by the Assistant Managers, Gallery Hosts work in the Museum's galleries where they greet visitors, ensure the security of visitors and the exhibits, answer exhibition content questions, deliver interpretive gallery animations or talks to casual groups of visitors as well as prescribed in-gallery programming, and provide general information concerning services, programs and exhibitions.

The incumbents will be strong and thoughtful communicators, critical thinkers and innovators, and will bring a collaborative approach to their role.

_What you will do_

• Contributes to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, and models antiracist and accountable behaviours.
• Provides visitors with general information concerning services, programs and exhibits, resources and wayfinding.
• Provides basic interpretation of Museum exhibits and seeks advice or guidance from Interpreters when needed and appropriate.
• Delivers ingallery interpretive programs and assists with organizing program supplies, encourages visitors to participate in programs, and demonstrates activities.
• Maintains a high level of knowledge and familiarity with the Museum's content.
• Facilitates discussions and dialogue and employs appropriate techniques to manage sensitive discussions.
• Assists with evacuation procedures i n the event of an emergency.
• Maintains a safe environment and acts as a first point of contact to escalate security matters to the appropriate staff member.
• Accommodates the needs of visitors in gallery as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

_ What we're looking for_

• High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 1 year of experience working in customer service or a combination of education and related experience.
• Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion and dignity for all.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a teamoriented environment.
• Available to work shifts (weekdays, weekends, evenings and general holidays).

_Desired Qualifications_

• Knowledge of general security practices.
• Experience with public speaking, teaching or heritage interpretation.
• Relevant and similar experience in a related organization (e.g., museum or other notforprofit organization or tourism industry).
• Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams) and search engine apps (iPad).
• The ability to communicate in additional languages, spoken or visual (e.g., ASL or LSQ).
