About the Role*As an early member of the Data Team, you'll play a huge role developing a scalable data strategy and building the team that executes it.

Data is one of our most important assets, and your team will enable better decision-making for all teams across the company.

What We Are Looking For*We are looking for a
Data Manager who will lead and implement technical projects.

We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of databases and is creative in architecting and developing data solutions to business problems.

As a
Data Manager, you will develop and architect significant changes along with leading a growing team. You will also be joining one of Canada's fastest-growing start-up companies

Your Key Responsibilities*- Lead a team responsible for data engineering and analysis for key business problems

  • Create quarterly plans and operationalize them in lean sprints for the data team
  • Examine existing pools of data to identify gaps and opportunities, and propose changes
  • Identify risks to data privacy and security and implement processes to prevent breach or loss
  • Develop company wide data strategy and architecture to keep up with Makeship's growth
  • Foster a culture of datacurious decisionmaking across our growing organization
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and other departments from prototype to production
  • Implement frameworks and processes to ensure data pipelines and reporting are accurate
  • Break down complex analyses into digestible insights for founders and executives

What You Bring

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in data engineering and/or analysis
  • At least 2 years of managing teams that report directly to you
  • Strong business and technical intuitions, with an ability to quickly learn new technologies
  • An ability to break down complex questions into a clear methodology
  • Ample experience with KPIs and reporting to executive stakeholders
  • Interest in the content creation space: art, animation, gaming, and entertainment
  • Proven experience in building databases, warehouses, pipelines, visualizations, and/or ETL
  • A strong understanding of relational databases, data storage, and data manipulation
  • A strong ability wrangle data and find answers complex realworld questions
  • Experience with cloud native infrastructure (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Experience with BI tools like Google Data Studio, Power BI, etc
  • Excellent communication with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders
  • An ability to gather information and requirements yourself, in a fastpaced environment

Bonus

  • Worked in a fastpaced startup or similar environment
  • API expertise for Google Analytics, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Worked with data from Shopify, Hubspot, or Airtable APIs.
  • Experience with our technology stack (PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Kafka, AWS, GCS)
  • Prior experience building and scaling ML solutions
