Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, People Services, the Employee Services Advisor plays a vital role in the organization, handling various Human Resources functions. This position involves overseeing and managing processes related to payroll, benefits, Employee Wellness initiatives, training & development, and leadership initiatives for the City. Additionally, the Employee Services Advisor supports the Director, takes on acting responsibilities, and manages assigned projects.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Employee Benefits:
    • Oversee and supervise the administration and compliance of all benefits programs such as Alberta Blue Cross, LAPP, APEX, and Lifestyles processes.
    • Research, analyze, and recommend new benefit programs to stay competitive and manage benefit plan costs.
    • Manage strategic employee benefit programs and processes.
    • Ensure proper administration of benefit changes and enrollments.
    • Manage the Long-Term Disability (LTD) Program.
    • Conduct regular Employee Benefits reviews.
  • Payroll Support:
    • Supervise payroll administration to ensure accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing.
    • Ensure effectiveness of all reconciliations and journal entries.
    • Focus on best practices and compliance for payroll processes/procedures.
    • Assume responsibilities of Payroll & Benefits Coordinator when necessary.
    • Coordinate and manage annual Canada Summer Jobs Grant application.
  • Employee Wellness Program:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive wellness program.
    • Coordinate wellness workshops, seminars, and events.
    • Evaluate wellness initiatives and make improvement recommendations.
  • Training, Development & Leadership Support:
    • Promote leadership development through training needs assessment.
    • Identify current and future training needs.
    • Collaborate with management to facilitate employee training needs.
    • Support corporate training initiatives.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess a 2-year Diploma, preferably a Degree in Human Resources Management. A CHRP Designation and a Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certificate are assets. Minimum four years of related HR work experience and three years of supervisory experience are required. Municipal setting experience is an asset. Strong organizational skills, professionalism, and a positive mindset are essential. The candidate should stay updated on HR best practices and relevant legislation.
