Skills and Abilities

  • Conduct intake and needs assessment for clients accessing assisted services, including Common Assessment Tool
  • Understand and assess client's motivation to participate in ES services and commitment to finding employment.
  • Determine suitability and eligibility for employmentrelated financial supports using required internal and/or SSM assessment tools
  • Work with client to complete additional assessments, as appropriate, to support career exploration activities (interests, abilities, learning styles, work values, etc.)
  • Explore life stabilization needs, and community partner resources and determine appropriate next steps for referral as part of the Employment Action Plan
  • Explore labor market information and resources alongside the client to understand and validate employment goal(s)
  • Engage with clients to understand their education and work history as part of the development of their Pre-Employment Phase action plan
  • Provide guidance and support to clients on recommended next steps relating to skills enhancement to support their progress towards their employment goals, including but not limited to shortterm skills training/upgrading, apprenticeships, Better Jobs Ontario, etc.
  • Keep current with prevailing labor market conditions as well as new developments within local and regional labor markets
  • Coordinate with local community partner resources for Essential Skills assessments, as appropriate
  • Support clients (Stream A) to explore resources [AP1] offered by VPI
  • Promote and explores available online learning platforms for suitable courses: VPI Learning Centre, LinkedIn Learning, SHL Assessments, etc.
  • Coordinate with client to determine need and use Jobseeker Financial Supports relating to skills development opportunities (i.e. assessments, certification charges, training costs, emergency life stabilization supports, etc.)
  • Develop an Employment Action Plan with each client during the initial assessment and regular and ongoing engagement with clients during Pre-Employment to support with forwarding progression of the plan
  • Consistent scheduled contact with the client that is focused and actionoriented towards clearly defined action plan items of the EAP that outline defined roles and responsibilities of each party
  • Ongoing assessment of Employability Factors (Motivation, Reliability, Dependability) towards determining Job Readiness and successful transition to Employment Preparation
  • Timely referrals of jobready clients to the Employment Preparation phase and Job Preparation Counsellor
  • Work with BM [AP2] to monitor and achieve individual targets
  • Effective and timely management of each client's Employment Action Plan and all appointments and activities within.
  • Maintain realtime, accurate case notes in Smart Simple according to internal policies and guidelines as well as funder criteria
  • Respond to client inquiries and provides assistance in a timely manner, as required
  • Support the effective operation of branch activities by providing support to team members, as directed by BM
  • Other duties as assigned
