The opportunity
We are currently seeking a Mine Planning Engineer to join our highly skilled team to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks On/Off with a standard 12 hours/day schedule, to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all year long.
The main pick-up points are St. John's, Gander, Deer Lake in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal, QC.
Reporting to the Manager - Mining Operations, the Mine Planning Engineer will be supporting Mine Operations in all aspects of mining. The position incumbent will coordinate with drill and blast contractors, operations personnel, surveyors, and other engineers to ensure the safe and efficient production from the various pits in operation.
This role is expected to work in both an office environment at site as well as field work in collaboration with multiple departments to achieve goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
Follow all company policies and proceduresPromote safety in the workplacePrepare and communicate weekly mine plans and schedulesConduct daily pit tours to ensure compliance to plan Communicate daily plans to Supervisors and Surveyors Design drill and blast patternsMonitor drill and blast performance and identify areas for improvementsDevelop long term mine plans and schedulesSupport in preparing annual budget for Mine OperationsMaintain up to date pit and waste dump designsTrack and analyze production data, provide recommendations on how to improve performanceManage various construction projects on site related to miningMonitor costs and ensure projects are being executed on time and within budgetPlay a major role in the development of planning and reporting systemsUndertake regular audits and inspections as requiredPrepare technical reports relating to mine plans and performanceOther duties and tasks as required
Experience & Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mine EngineeringRegistered with PEGNL, or eligible to register5+ years of experience in open pit mining Valid Class 5 drivers licenseAdvanced level of expertise in mine planning software. Experience with MinePlan considered an asset Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. French considered an asset
