What You'll Do
Easter Seals BC/Yukon is seeking a Camp Counselor to provide supervision and support to participants in the "Ready. Set. Volunteer" program formally "City Adventure Camp" (CAC).

"Ready. Set. Volunteer" is an activity-based day program that aims to help people with disabilities, between the ages 17-29, develop new skills and confidence through activities and supported volunteerism in their local communities.


This program is overseen by the Outreach Coordinator, who trains and supports the Camp team in providing this program over the months of July and August.


Responsibilities
The Camp Counselor will provide support, supervision, and leadership to participants in "Ready. Set. Volunteer" program.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Participate in and plan all program activities.
  • Familiarize self with activity locations and transit routes.
  • Attend to the participants' wellbeing, ensuring they feel secure, comfortable, & welcome.
  • As much as possible, encourage each participant's independence and recognize and utilize potential for personal growth or social development.
  • Provide supervision and ensure that effective standards of safety are always maintained.
  • Debrief with the group after their experiences that day.
  • Remain upbeat and always serve as a positive role model.
  • Complete participant evaluations and all necessary paperwork.

What you bring

  • Experience in youth and community programming with an understanding of diverse abilities.
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check within the past 6 months.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and think quickly in times of crisis to ensure a positive result.
  • Ability to work effectively with other team members as well as function independently.
  • Ability to adapt and adjust in a changing environment.
  • Ability to cope in a demanding environment.
  • Strong communication and personal skills.
  • Extremely well organized with strong multitasking abilities.
