A day in the life
The Facilities Technician carries out maintenance and repairs throughout the Canada Place facility, including HVAC equipment, doors, gates, floors, building envelope, walls, ceilings and planters.
Key responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs
- Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Facilities Maintenance, conduct preventative maintenance and repairs of the Canada Place facility, including but not limited to nontechnical painting, tile work, concrete, door repair and minor electrical maintenance.
- Conduct regular scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling systems.
- Determine and follow best course of action for conducting work within scope.
- Carry out maintenance and repair projects as directed.
- Develop project scopes, procure services as per the VFPA Procurement Policy, participate in the selection of vendors, monitor contractor services, and provide updates and progress reports to the Manager, Facilities Services, and the Supervisor, Facilities Maintenance as
- Report on procedures, including details on parts and supplies used; maintain maintenance records.
- Ensure work is completed safely and VFPA Safe Working Procedures are adhered to.
- Maintain and store props for Canada Place promotion activities.
Required skills and experience
High school graduate with a minimum of 3 years' experience in building maintenance in a commercial setting including the use of various related machinery and equipment.
Must have knowledge of mechanical and electrical installations, welding, soldering and wood constructions, as well as experience within concrete, forming, carpentry, tiling, painting, minor electrical maintenance, plumbing and various types of door repairs.
Must haves
Must be a responsible person in good physical condition. Must be capable of taking direction and performing independently according to those directions.
Must be a team player with the ability to establish good working relationships and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
Must be comfortable working at heights, over water and in confined spaces.Working Conditions
Some adverse weather conditions and exposure to noise, vibrations, heat, cold, fumes. Work at heights, over water and in confined spaces at times. Occasional heavy lifting.
Marine Transportation Security Clearance
This position is required to access restricted areas/information.
The incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid Marine Transportation Security Clearance as defined by the Marine Transportation Security Regulations.
