The Position:


The Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust is seeking an outgoing Volunteer Outreach Coordinator who is a team player and organizational leader.

They will recruit, train, support, and actively engage with volunteers in person and virtually - someone who will develop teams that perform essential functions to help us secure ecologically significant habitats to preserve in perpetuity.

This is an essential role that will help us reach out to communities across the moraine, welcoming people from all backgrounds, and helping them support the moraine, while feeling valued for their contributions.

This position is a people-facing position that offers the opportunity to develop and take ownership of our volunteer program.

We are looking for a detail-oriented and focused volunteer and outreach coordinator to be responsible for refining, developing and building our database of volunteers, volunteer opportunities, outreach and engagement.

Using distributed leadership principles, they will build a team of leaders and champions within our volunteer community to support operational and stewardship needs.

Typical tasks include:

  • Identifying volunteer opportunities using distributed leadership and engagement organizing principles.
  • Development or refining volunteer job and task descriptions.
  • Preparing codes of conduct and operating procedures to uphold the organization's values.
  • Recruiting, welcoming, training, and supervising new volunteers.
  • Collecting volunteer information, availability, and skills, and maintaining an uptodate database.
  • Coordinating volunteer schedules and examining opportunities for automation of tracking and reporting.
  • Matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skill sets, and ensuring they understand their responsibilities, expectations and receive the proper training.
  • Empowering volunteers to take leadership roles to help support the organization and developing a structure that facilitates this.

What you bring:

  • A postsecondary degree in business management, human resources, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience (35 years) recruiting, supporting and coordinating a volunteer base required.
  • College or University degree in Volunteer Management or related field is an asset.
  • Certification in volunteer administration or management is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of databases including Keela.
  • Excellent organization and teambuilding skills.
  • Experienced in supervision, training or facilitation.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others.
  • Knowledge of the Environmental sector is advantageous but not required.
  • A successful volunteer coordinator should be meticulous about keeping records and passionate about volunteer work and the work of the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust.
