Description:
The Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust (ORMLT) is a non-profit organization and one of the leading Land Trust organizations in Ontario. As we continue to grow, we are looking to increase our organization’s capacity. ORMLT is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated student to help monitor and steward our protected properties along the Oak Ridges Moraine. Acceptance of this position means you will have the unique opportunity to engage in meaningful conservation work, supporting ORMLT's mission to safeguard sensitive land on the Moraine from degradation and development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Schedule, conduct and report on the annual monitoring program for properties protected by the Land Trust.
- Document species at risk and invasive species seen on nature reserves and protected properties.
- Prepare written reports in compliance with the Ecological Gifts Program.
- Collaborate with staff to develop action plans addressing violations and environmental issues.
- Identify, prioritize, schedule and implement projects for nature reserves.
- Conduct various outdoor tasks including trail maintenance, removing invasive species and native seed planting.
- Assist in the development and updating of the Baseline Documentation Reports and Ecological Sensitivity Reports for new potential properties as needed.
- Contribute to the development and revision of management, stewardship, or restoration plans for existing properties.
- Assist with volunteer management, special events, logístical coordination, and reporting.
- Assist in the delivery of community outreach events including community events, restoration activities, educational hikes, and much more.
- Assist in coordinating stewardship-related workshops and activities with partners.
- Other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:

- You may be required to work from home some days. Ensure that you have reliable internet access and a private space to work at home.
- Valid Ontario driver's license, insurance, and access to reliable transportation to drive to the office and various properties along the Moraine.
- Utilize your personal phone for work-related communication.

Knowledge and Skills:

- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary school and completing a degree or a diploma in conservation, natural resource management, environmental studies, or another related field of study.
- Relevant work experience is an asset.
- Familiarity of environmental legislation, ecological management, and conservation planning.
- Knowledge of QGIS software is an asset.
- Knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and ability to communicate the importance of stewardship activities.
- Native and invasive flora and fauna ID skills
- Knowledge of local wildlife including mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.
- Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to carry heavy objects such as equipment, signage, etc.
- Comfortable working in various outdoor conditions.
- Demonstrated experience with GPS and field equipment.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for events, volunteer workshops, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

Where?

The office is located on a rural property near Schomberg. The position may have opportunities to work from home.
