As Marqeta's Fraud Risk Group Product Manager you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing Fraud Risk Management of Marqeta's Card and Financial Services Products. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to help protect Marqeta and our customers and minimize fraud loss within Marqeta's rapidly growing products and services. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Fraud and Risk Management including Issuer / Card Fraud Risk Management and all aspects of running a successful fraud management program including Strategy, Policy, Product, and Operations within the fintech or financial services industry. This individual will partner closely with our Risk Product, Credit Underwriting, Compliance, Operations and other cross-functional teams to define, implement and optimize Fraud Risk Management strategies.

What You'll Do

  • Fraud Management Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive card fraud management strategy for our card programs, along with other financial services products, aligned with company goals and objectives. Leverage strong quantitative, critical thinking, and communication skills in developing, owning and executing the strategy. Partner closely with compliance, risk product and Credit Underwriting to align on holistic risk management strategies. Provide strategic leadership e2e across all risk and cross-functional teams creating an environment for trust and collaboration in the pursuit of shared business outcomes.
  • Loss Management and Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Manage Loss performance and outcomes across portfolios and clients. Partner closely with Finance and relevant teams to both forecast and manage actual Loss performance. Oversee and Implement robust Fraud Management monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track fraud losses and key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and service level agreements (SLAs). Provide regular updates to senior management on performance and initiatives.
  • Fraud Rule Ownership: Develop and implement fraud models, logic and rules in Marqeta's rule engine and supporting vendors. Including using Applied Machine Learning and AI. Partner closely with vendors and risk product to define and implement business rules. Partner with credit policy / underwriting to enhance fraud defenses on the origination side including influencing adoption of different data sources, rules and process flows for step up authentication.
  • Fraud Operations: Partner closely with our Fraud / Risk Operations team to define and implement operational workflows, reports, and necessary processes to support fraud management strategy along with identifying opportunities for process optimization. Partner closely with front office customer support on servicing customers regarding fraud related issues such as declines and authentication.
  • Research and Analysis: Lead data driven analysis and development of fraud strategies with a focus on minimizing fraud risk and losses while preserving and enhancing customer experience. Leverage data analysis / science skills such as SQL and ability to work with large data sets, to develop data and insights and research necessary to develop and enhance the strategy (models, rules), monitoring and reporting, and business intelligence. Analyze performance metrics, trends, and key risk indicators to identify areas of opportunity and concern. Effectively communicate relevant findings and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Product Development: Leverage profound product and technical background to partner closely with Risk Product and Operations to evaluate and optimize product and technology, including vendors, in support of the fraud management strategy.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, MIS or related field; advanced degree or equivalent experience a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in risk management (Strategy, Product, Policy, Operations), preferably in the financial services or fintech industry, with a track record of progressive leadership and achievement. Card (Credit and Debit) Issuing risk management experience preferred including Strategy and rule ownership.
  • Data analytics and data science background with SQL skills and ability to work with large and complex data. Knowledge and experience with Applied Machine Learning and AI tactics and use.
  • Product Management background and technical acumen to define and execute scalable solutions and work closely with product development teams to guide strategic development.
  • Deep expertise in risk principles, methodologies, and regulatory requirements, with a focus on card risk management practices.
  • Strategic and commercial mindset; ability to form a vision and work with product and cross-functional teams to bring this vision to life; understand PnL commercials and how to leverage risk as an enabler.
  • Excellent problem solver, critical thinker, disciplined attention to detail.
  • Sound judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining industry relationships to keep abreast of developments in the fraud space. You are familiar with the latest trends in the space, and development in the domain.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in statistical modeling, data analysis, and risk assessment techniques.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Proven track record of effective cross functional collaboration and leadership and fostering a culture of high performance and operational excellence.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
