Within the context of a person and family-centered model of care and in accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, the position of Physiotherapist: Clinical Instructor/Therapist is responsible for the clinical education and training, orientation, supervision, and evaluation of physiotherapy students who will provide services to meet the healthcare needs of community members along the full continuum of care.

When not supervising students, the incumbent will provide direct clinical services and carry an active caseload as part of the rehabilitation team, and direct services to communities within the Northwest region that may experience intermittent gaps in physiotherapy coverage.

As part the rehabilitation team, and in collaboration with organizational and community leaders, the incumbent will also support the development of the primary health model and the rehabilitation programs and services required to improve the functional independence, education, and self management capacity of individuals and their families.

The incumbent operates under a collaborative reporting structure, with direct administrative reporting to the Manager of Rehabilitation Services (Prince Rupert/Haida Gwaii), and an oversight reporting relationship to a representative steering committee.


Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days - 08:30 to 16:30

Prince Rupert Regional Hospital is the largest hospital in northwest BC with 27 acute care beds. Qualfications

  • Current registration with the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia and eligible for membership with the Physiotherapy Association of BC.
  • Masters' level education in a relevant discipline or equivalent level of education and training focused on health systems administration, education and/or leadership.
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience in the variety of clinical practice areas such as acute, community or residential care; one (1) year experience in a leadership /supervisory/ educator role.
  • Completion of a course in adult education or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated teaching and supervisory/mentoring experience for a range of health care providers.
  • Valid BC Driver's license required.
Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead, mentor, coach, facilitate, and develop students and staff through consultation, teaching and guidance.
  • Excellent theoretical and clinical PT knowledge, skills, experience, and expertise in the acute inpatient/outpatient and/or community care settings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams and establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and partners. Understands and applies competencies for interprofessional collaboration.
  • Ability to establish partnerships, seek opportunities, find and link resources, and build networks.
  • Understanding of the current health systems environment including primary health care and integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work and develop/implement new projects.
  • Knowledge of adult education, principles methods and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach both one-one-one and in groups.
  • Ability to develop educational, training and instructional resource materials.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to operate related equipment and techniques appropriate to clinical areas of responsibility.
  • Strong computer literary and competent use of office software applications and technology/equipment in support of deliverables, practice education and outreach.
  • Ability to critically appraise and incorporate relevant research, guidelines and best practice standards.
  • Ability to apply evaluation and quality improvement methodology to care management and educational processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to use knowledge translation processes, change management strategies, and to adapt to complex organizational work environments.
