Reporting to the Manager, Building Services, the Building Maintenance Coordinator will work collaboratively with Regional Operations Staff to develop and implement training for CUPE Local 416 staff; conduct building level needs assessments; and monitor compliance of building protocols and procedures.


What you'll do

  • Strengthening of employee compliance with operational building practices including but not limited to Preventative Maintenance, Fire & Life Safety Audits, and Asbestos Management/Mold Remediation.
  • Facilitate training of employees to ensure effective coordination of Move-Out work, Annual Unit Inspections, Accessibility Assessments, Pest Management Practices and other maintenance activities as identified.
  • Supports development and implementation of Strategic Building Maintenance Objectives including but not limited to the development and compliance of Building Maintenance Standards and Routines, Unit Condition Procedures, Maintenance Dispatch, and Health & Safety Assurance.
  • Liaises with management and building staff to identify service gaps and provides input on solution.
  • Collaborates with management on the reallocation of staffing resources.
  • Responds to complaints and keeps a record of complaints and resolutions.
  • Travels to various work locations.
  • Maintains a safe workplace at all times, consistent with legislation including but not limited to Ontario Health and Safety Act, Joint Health & Safety Policy, Social Housing Reform Act, Residential Tenancies Act, Fire Safety Code, etc.
  • Actively supports, promotes and assists in the implementation of the Toronto Community Housing Corporation's Business Plan initiatives and Toronto Community Housing's policies and procedures.
  • Adheres and complies to various TCHC standards, policies and procedures including but not limited to Mental Health Awareness, Customer Service and AODA.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

What you'll need

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance, semiskilled repairs and housekeeping in a large residential or institutional environment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing semiskilled maintenance and repairs (e.g. electrical, plumbing and carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, window repairs, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience operating manual and power tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in cleaning and janitorial work and the ability to operate janitorial equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing preventative maintenance on building equipment and fixtures.
  • Demonstrated experience providing work direction and/or coordinating resources.
  • Demonstrated experience training and/or coaching staff to achieve common objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, organizing and monitoring work schedules (e.g. cleaning and maintenance schedules).
  • Experience utilizing a variety of mobile, computing and communication devices.
  • Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service in a diverse work environment.
  • A valid G Driver's Licence is required
  • Ability to respond effectively to a variety of multiple and complex issues associated with a large social housing portfolio.
  • Ability to build and sustain effective partnerships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as a valuable team player.
  • Sound working knowledge of life safety systems and procedures as required by legislation.
