What can I expect to do in this role?: You will:

  • Plan and carry out quantitative and qualitative research and analyses to develop inferences regarding the nature, extent, and scope of organized and serious crime in Ontario and Canada
  • Develop and maintain databases, and manipulate a variety of structured and unstructured data to gain actionable insight into connections between criminal suspects and criminal activity
  • Conduct scans of organized and serious crime activity from a range of sources, and use specialized research techniques to identify, analyze, and evaluate broad and specific trends related to organized and serious crime activity.
  • Develop strategic, operational, and tactical intelligence assessments to predict organized crime capabilities, intentions, and harms; and to track the complex structure and interrelationships of organized crime groups.
  • Translate data and analytical results into actionable insights for senior leadership decisionmaking.
  • Use data visualization techniques (e.g. charts, graphs, dashboards, etc.) to present analytical results in concise, nontechnical language.
  • Prepare a range of policy/research reports, presentations, and submissions to senior law enforcement decisionmakers.
  • Work closely with clients, data stewards, analysts, managers, and others to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organizational decisions.
  • Represents the ministry at seminars and conferences as a delegate or speaker, on matters related to law enforcement, criminal intelligence methods, procedures, equipment, and programs.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of existing law enforcement strategies and technologies, and make recommendations to support management decisions with regard to strategic policy development
  • Contributes to continuous improvement within the unit by participating in the development of evaluation frameworks and proactively suggesting improvements to data analysis methodologies, considering a variety of innovative and creative solutions
  • Develop and maintain contacts with law enforcement and investigative agencies at municipal, First Nations, provincial, federal, and international levels

How do I qualify?:

Technical Knowledge:

  • You have knowledge of policy development, government decisionmaking processes and program evaluation and analytical techniques to provide recommendations related to strategic and operational planning
  • You have knowledge of key provincial objectives pertaining to organized and serious crime, relevant legislation, case law, operational/crossjurisdictional intelligence, foreign affairs, criminology, organized crime structure and critical issues impacting community safety
  • You have knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data methodologies and are comfortable working with both structured and unstructured data to develop analyses and inferences
  • You are familiar with databases, database management, and coding to manipulate data in these systems
  • You are familiar with predictive analytics, mathematics, and statistical methodologies to synthesize and analyze data/information.
  • You have knowledge of big data sets, and methodologies related to data mining, artificial intelligence, and machine leaning.

  • You have critical thinking skills and creativity
  • You can recognize abstract patterns and relationships
  • You can analyze and integrate multiple sources of criminal intelligence information/data to predict organized crime capabilities and intentions, and to assess the complex structure of organized crime groups
