Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team.
The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for the safety management system including occupational health and safety, injury prevention, and wellness programs, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, corporate policies and procedures, reducing related risks and achieving zero accidents/injuries.
This role combines understanding legal safety requirements and setting standards for Spark Power's workforce. The coordinator's knowledge is used to help train workers to understand safety procedures and requirements.This position will be 3 days in the office, one day at home, and one day in the field with a Specialist.
What will you do as a Health & Safety Coordinator?
- Engage with the functional business leaders within the organization as their health and safety resource partner.
- Assist management with effectively implementing and administrating the safety management system.
- Responsible for occupational health and safety, injury prevention, and wellness programs to ensure compliance with relevant legislation to reduce related risks and achieve zero accidents/injuries
- Assisting in the management of WCB/WSIB Claims and Return to Work programs. Assist Regional Safety Specialists Claims to ensure injured workers actively participate in Modified Work Program.
- Research and provide reliable comments on any workplace health and safety concerns raised by management and/or employees.
- Perform routine site visits and safety inspections of all work sites to ensure the Safety Management System has been properly implemented and effectively administered.
- Perform annual formal Management System Audits of all major projects and/or worksites and report findings to Operations.
- Stay current on changes respecting legislative, company, and client health and safety requirements.
- Assist management and supervision with Job Safety Planning/Risk Analysis via JHA(s) or procedure development and implementation.
- Assist in the selection of personal protective equipment required to meet the needs of the workplace.
- Assist in a local safety committee and participate in meetings. Ensure meeting minutes are properly distributed and monitor the completion of action items discussed.
- Fill requests for safety literature received from projects or safety committees including job start up packages and thirdparty sites.
- Refer all requests for Notice of Project (Ontario) to the Regional Safety Manager.
- Assisting with the implementation and development of Health and Safety Policies, Safe Work Procedures, Job Hazard Analysis, Safe Operating Procedures, Physical Demands Analysis/Physical Demands Descriptions, obtaining/maintaining COR Certification, and Training Programs
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Do you have the Spark? Here's what we're looking for:
- Post-Secondary Education preferably majoring in Occupational Health and Safety with a minimum of 3-5 years related construction or electrical work experience
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record with the ability to travel to customer sites or branches regularly
- OHSA (USA) knowledge is considered an asset.
- NCSO or CRSP Designation an asset, or willing to work towards certification.
- Knowledge of Safety Prequalifiers and OHSA an asset
- COR Auditor Certification an asset
