Position Summary


WCS Canada is in the early stages of a project to migrate away from on-site digital asset management to a solution that will combine the Microsoft 365 environment with offsite server and storage solutions.

The Digital Assets Manager position will be an important member of the team working to complete this project in partnership with the WCS IT Department located at the WCS head office in New York.


The development and implementation of comprehensive digital asset management solutions and process will require working closely with staff across the organization, from communications and marketing staff on the management of media and website properties, to our GIS professionals to find solutions for spatial data access and storage challenges, and with our research staff on data sharing and management.

To be successful, the Digital Assets Manager will collaborate with the WCS Library and Archives team, and the Conservation Technology Program, both based at the WCS head office in New York.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of WCS Canada's digital assets, including photos, videos, research and geospatial (GIS) data.
  • Assist with implementation and management of WCS Canada's SharePoint infrastructure.
  • Establish a system for staff to submit and retrieve digital media in support of communications and fundraising.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a geospatial data management strategy for WCS Canada in partnership with our GIS professionals across our research programs.
  • Lead the management of WCS Canadas website assets.
  • Develop a strategy for managing WCS Canada research data across a variety of programs and data types., including data from camera traps and acoustic recorders.
  • Develop and manage a strategy for retaining research data and information as research staff retire or transition.
  • Assist with open access publishing and associated sharing of research data.
  • Develop strategies and systems for sharing our research data externally.
  • Provide SharePoint support to staff as needed.
  • Assist with the management of other WCS Canada databases and systems as required.
  • Contribute to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace that promotes engagement and belonging.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • Master's degree in library and information science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years + experience in and clear understanding of data structures/database management, metadata schemas and taxonomy development, and filenaming conventions.
  • 2 years + Experience in Content Management Systems, Metadata/Asset Management, File management, Project management, or related equivalent.
  • Experience managing digital assets including migrations, cataloging, tagging, and maintaining standards.
  • Demonstrated interest in organizational systems and content curation.
  • Selfstarter able to demonstrate proactive, creative problemsolving strategies, diplomacy and initiative in previous work experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills with superior attention to detail and capability to deliver with high level of accuracy.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent comprehension skills and experience educating nontechnical stakeholders and working across multiple teams.
  • Proficient in documentation and utilizing documentation to effect change throughout a team or organization.
  • Ability to prioritize when juggling multiple tasks and projects.
  • Aptitude to quickly learn new systems and tools.

Other Desirable Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • Experience deploying and maintaining digital asset management systems.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to IT troubleshooting and support.
  • Knowledge of geographic information systems and spatial data storage.
  • Knowledge of open access publication and data sharing standards.
  • A passion for the conservation of nature and wildlife.
