At QBE Canada we're looking for an experienced Claims Examiner to join our Canadian team. This opportunity enables the individual to manage complex claims and be part of a collaborative team Your new role
  • Examine intermediate to complex property & casualty claims while providing outstanding Claims handling service (focus on ability to handle property claims)
  • Prepare and be able to present a complete file strategy, coverage analysis, disposition, and business case
  • Ensure that estimates and billings are calculated correctly by clients and brokers and that QBE's share has also been correctly calculated
  • Identify and investigate coverage issues so as to ensure that the company's liability is in line with its contractual commitments
  • Identify subrogation, contribution and other recovery issues and ensure that these are successfully pursued where appropriate
  • Manage disputed Claims and other material Claims issues in order to resolve and settle claims fairly
  • Ensure that Claims fees and advices are responded to within agreed timeframes to ensure good service
  • Provide a professional service to brokers and clients which supports the reputation of the Company
  • Respond to internal and external stakeholder requests in accordance with service standards Flag complaints as required and Treat Customers Fairly
  • Maintain knowledge of the Claims Portfolio and provide information to others on request to ensure the effective monitoring of Claims to support Underwriting and Claims decision
  • Reserve accurately to ensure that the Company's liability is clear at all times
  • Ensure accurate and timely update of the company's systems as and when required
  • Deal with MI reports when required to maintain status quo and to help reasonably control costs and control leakage
  • Maintain efficient handling of their own caseload to ensure the prompt, timely and effective handling of Claims
About you
  • Strong investigative skills
  • Solid understanding of a variety of property and casualty coverage wordings, including First Party Property, Construction (Course of Construction and Wrap Liability), Commercial General Liability.
  • Basic accounting skills
  • Ability to understand and analysis scopes of damage
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in commercial insurance claims
  • Strong critical thinking and investigation skills
  • Knowledge of insurance law and legislation (and related court proceedings and protocols, including mediation/arbitration procedures are an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Relationship Management skills
  • Able to use MS office applications, Word, Excel and Access
  • Able to produce MI and detailed reports at various levels
  • CIP or FCIP qualified or progress towards completion of insurance qualifications or equivalent. Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
