CFO/COO (100% Remote, Ontario resident preferred)


Piazza Entertainment, a leading producer of film and television shows (including SkyMed) is seeking a CFO/COO to replace their retiring executive.

A unique opportunity for a unique individual. Our CFO/COO is in the thick of everything – from negotiating deals to managing production loans. The CFO/COO is responsible for all business matters (corporate and production).

Piazza is looking for an individual as comfortable with a spreadsheet as a legal contract, someone equally comfortable with managing other professionals as rolling up their sleeves to get a job done.

Our new CFO/COO must understand how to get deals closed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • All business matters including managing the corporate structure, supporting development and supervising production and providing the CEO with advice on all transactions.
  • Preparing finance plans, development budgets, managing development costs including tracking option dates and development payments and receivables and other legal items.
  • Ensuring that day-to-day and year end accounting and tax filings is undertaken for each corporate entity.
  • Supervising the outside experts managing funding and tax credit applications (occasionally preparing applications).
  • Supervising lawyers in the preparation of all contracts including broadcast licenses, talent agreements, development and option agreements, crew deal memos. Determining employment and third-party agreements to be used by production.
  • Coordinating and overseeing broadcast and bank loan documentation, funding requests, and tracking of deliverables and milestone payments/invoicing.
  • Managing cash flow with production team including preparation of cash flow forecasts for the bank and regular reviews of cash requirements and availability of funds. Managing foreign exchange requirements with the bank based on production cash flow requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with production teams on all business-related matters.
  • Keeping up to date on entertainment industry trends, regulations, and best practices.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Minimum 10 years entertainment industry accounting and/or business affairs experience.
  • University degree in related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in closing television financing and deals.
  • Familiarity and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial tax credit guidelines and other such funding initiatives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Movie Magic and/or EP accounting software would also be nice).
  • Superior analytical and conceptual skills, excellent planning and organizational skills, and ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects on tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative.
  • Must have superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of entertainment industry practices.
  • Good relationships and reputation with stakeholders in the Canadian entertainment industry.
