Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered up with one of Canada's premiere law firms to recruit a Senior Manager, Finance to join their team in Toronto, Ontario. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Manager, Finance will oversee the financial operations of the firm.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Direct the planning and execution of the Firm's accounting function and related controls to ensure accurate and timely processes, procedures, and practices for client invoicing, trust accounting, and partner accounting.
  • Develop, manage, and lead the firm's annual budget process in collaboration with department heads and senior management.
  • Conduct regular forecasting and variance analysis to ensure financial goals are met.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to support decision-making processes.
  • Ensure the financial system platform meets the needs of the Firm.
  • Provide first-class finance team support for partners to ensure the billing and collections cycle is timely, effective, and user-friendly.
  • Work closely with partners and attorneys to address billing, rates, and tax questions and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date billing rates for clients, including compliance with client billing guidelines.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and collections, implementing strategies to improve cash flow.
  • Coordinate with attorneys and clients to resolve outstanding balances and disputes.
  • Analyze collection trends and develop strategies to minimize aging Accounts Receivable.
  • Prepare timely, accurate, and user-friendly monthly financial reports and analysis for senior management, highlighting key financial metrics, performance, and related recommendations to the CFO.
  • Conduct financial modeling and analysis to support strategic initiatives and business decisions, identifying areas of cost savings and revenue enhancement.
  • Maintain the firm's financial dashboard and work with practice groups and the partnership on any ad-hoc reporting requests.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to partners, including profitability analysis and partner compensation.
  • Ensure efficient processes and practices for partner administration.
  • Collaborate with and respond to finance inquiries from partners and other members of the firm in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Foster a culture of financial accountability and transparency within the firm.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement financial training programs for staff.
  • Support firm-wide initiatives to promote financial health and well-being.

Your Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of law firm accounting practices, including billing, collections, and partner compensation.
  • Sensitive to the unique culture and characteristics of a partnership-run business. Ability to effectively lead, persuade, and manage multiple stakeholders to complete large-scale initiatives.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and trust at all levels within an organization and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively.
  • High capacity for work and show passion, energy, and a proactive attitude.
