We are looking for a System Design Manager to join our team in Toronto.

This safety critical industry provides challenging and rewarding work. The Systems Department is responsible to design the signaling solution based on the customer needs and the features provided by our product. The department is responsible to commmunicate these design to all stakeholders and ensure that the design is understood and developed accordingly. The work enviornment is fast paced and challenging as it involves working with customers, operators and other suppliers in order to understand the full signaling solution and how the solution interacts with other systems in the transportation system. In addition, the design must meet all the safety, performance, functional and operational reequirements. The team is also responsible to support all the development and testing activities.

As Manager of System Design, you are responsible to perform all people management activities in order to meet the demands of the projects, bids and products assign to your team. In addition, the applicant is responsible to ensure that the team is meeting the objectives of the department which includes meeting quality, budget, and schedule targets. As manager you are responsible to verify estimates and discuss workload, so a technical background is a must and experience in rail is desired.

Key Responsibilities:

Assignment of the team members to projects, product and other tasks to ensure the system design resource needs are meet for projects and product

Develops team members by assignment of training coaching and mentoring as required

Develops and executes change management for discipline improvements

Performs regular performance/objective reviews and yearly salary reviews with all team members

Provides coaching and mentoring, to team members as necessary with a direct responsibility to mentor work package managers (WPMs)

Mentor WPMs to plan, organize and execute activities to ensure that all project deliverables are completed in a timely manner

Responsible for staff planning, hiring and training plans to ensure that staff is able to meet current and future departmental commitments

Manages activities required to develop proposals and to estimate costs, deadlines and risks for bids

Is responsible for the professional development of his/her teams (organization, competences / skills, careers)

Ensures the deployment of processes, methods, tools, technical / product / engineering policies while respecting Entity / Business Organization / Thales policies

Ensuring that any Corrective Actions and Observations related to the systems engineering delivery and solution are closed in a timely and complete manner

Ensures that our processes support the delivery of safe and high-quality systems

Arranges for the sharing, management and transmission of knowledge and know-how

Maximizes product re-use and ensures correct design re-use

Ensures a maximum consistency of process across all projects and products

Provides a professional, dynamic, cooperative and high achieving work environment for the staff

Maintaining good internal relationships and communication with the consumers of the systems design including software, hardware, safety and verification and validation

Required Skills and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or closely related field

Minimum 5 years relevant systems engineering experience

Proven technical Management skills

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Rail and Signaling experience

Work package management

Strong planning and organizational skills

Coaching skills

Change Management and Leadership
