Job Summary:


The Community and Patient Engagement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating community engagement projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing cancer control, outcomes and patient experience in Manitoba.


They are responsible for coordinating CCMB's Patient and Family Advisors program enabling patients, family members and caregivers to provide advice on a variety of projects and initiatives.


The Community and Patient Engagement Coordinator uses a health equity and community centered approach to cancer care, and works closely with members of the Underserved Populations Program team.

This position reports to the Program Coordinator - Community Relations.

Qualifications:

_Required:
_

  • Baccalaureate degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Native Studies or related field/ discipline is required. A combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with communities and culturally diverse populations
  • Demonstrated understanding of health equity and how it impacts patient care, experience and outcomes
  • Demonstrated awareness of equity deserving populations at risk of not receiving adequate provision or access to cancer care, such as but not limited to First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, newcomers, sexual and gender minorities, older adults, and individuals who are geographically isolated.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with project management or coordination,
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with planning, implementing, and evaluation projects or programs
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in coordinating and facilitating virtual and inperson sessions for a diverse group of participants.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated management of competing priorities and changes in organization priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, being selfdirected; and also, within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and think critically.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all levels of staff, patients and the general public.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills, including presenting to various audiences.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
  • Must have suitable access to a reliable vehicle and valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Satisfactory employment record
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Fluency in Cree, Dakota, Dene, Inuktitut, Michif, Ojibwe, Oji-Cree, or a language other than English.
  • Experience with, and demonstrated understanding of, First Nations, Métis and Inuit health issues and experience in respectfully working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience working with webbased communications such as Teams and Zoom
  • Experience in designing promotional material such as posters
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of the cancer continuum, and cancer services
  • Strong public speaking, written and presentation skills
  • Previous experience writing grants and reports to funding agencies

  • Experience providing Elder/ Knowledge Keeper support
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and experience in educating adults
