Education & Support Services Coordinator

Reports to:
Manager, Education & Support Services

Job Purpose:

  • To provide and/or support the delivery of information, education, and resources for persons with Parkinson's, their caregivers/families, volunteers, healthcare professionals and facilities providing care to persons with Parkinson's. This includes researching and maintaining information resources.


The job activities are conducted in support of the Parkinson Society British Columbia's (PSBC) mission - "_Empower the Parkinson's community in British Columbia through providing resources and services to enable self-management, self-reliance and self-advocacy.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Events:_
  • Participates in aspects of event planning and attends and assists with workshops, community talks and educational conferences as required.
  • Recruits presenters and moderates educational webinars.
  • Researches and advises on PDrelated topics for webinars and conferences while also acquiring team input.
  • Coordinates virtual psychosocial activities for Persons Living with Parkinson's (PwP) and their Carepartners.
  • Follows the planning documents for each event and manages all logístical aspects as assigned.
  • With the team, writes event advertisements (event descriptions, event posters, update PSBC website accordingly, etc.).
  • Provides technical support with online events as required.
  • Support Groups:_
  • Facilitates staffled support groups for Person's living with Parkinson's and Caregivers as needed.
  • Provides resources, guidance, and direction to support groups as needed.

Support Services:

  • Follows up with community referrals to the Society and provides appropriate resources and linkages to PSBC support services such as counselling, virtual physiotherapy, and healthcare navigation services.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Information and Referral:_
  • Researches information and community resources pertinent to people living with Parkinson's, caregivers/carepartners, and healthcare professionals.
  • Helps update the PSBC website and resource materials.
  • Remains up to date with research and related PD news, and recommends postings for publication (i.e., social media, GroupLink, Viewpoints).

Job Requirements or Qualifications:

  • Prefer degree in social services or health (_specific knowledge of Parkinson's disease strongly preferred_).
  • Experience or training in event planning or related field, and program coordination experience in operating social/nonprofit programs, an asset.
  • Experience working with people coping with the challenges of living with a chronic health condition.
  • Knowledge of resources available in BC to refer people to that will assist with the challenges of living with a chronic health condition.
  • Experience liaising with community social services agencies and healthcare providers.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in helping people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong listening skills.
  • Compassionate and organized questioning skills to identify needs.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills inperson and over the phone.
  • Presentation and facilitation skills an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Proficient computer skills: Word, Excel, database systems (Raiser's Edge preferred), internet, research.
- _Technological Adaptability including experience with use of webinar platforms such as Zoom is essential_

  • Driver's license and access to a vehicle
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Some in office time at downtown Vancouver will be required as well as some travel including occasional weekends._
