Qualifications

Education:

  • Completion of Grade 12, all students must be currently enrolled in a postsecondary institution or within six months of graduation.

Experience:

  • Experience in planning and presenting children's programs is an asset

Overall Purpose:

In alignment with BPL's programming strategy, and under the guidance of the Community and Programming Librarians, the Maker Buddies Program Leader will focus on developing and delivering a multi-week, inquiry-based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program that will inspire children to explore STEM and build their confidence in these areas through hands-on learning.

Part of the role includes promoting the program through outreach events and facilitating program activities at two library branch locations.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Planning and developing the Maker Buddies program curriculum for children ages 61
  • Promoting the Maker Buddies program to parents and children at outreach events.
  • Facilitating and monitoring daytoday program activities for the Maker Buddies program.
  • Provide proactive customercentered service in programs by anticipating needs and looking for opportunities to create exceptional customer experiences.
  • Encourage, promote, and assist program attendees in the use of STEM and Makerspace technology, including troubleshooting technology issues.
  • Completing formative and summative evaluations of the Maker Buddies program.
  • Assist with Summer Reading Club activities and programming as needed.
  • Perform additional positionrelated accountabilities assigned by management.

Work Environment

  • Most work is completed in public library spaces, while customers are present, with little exposure to noise, dirt, or external elements.
  • Some work is completed in office space, moderate level of computer and phone use.
  • Some outreach events are held offsite.

Physical

  • Normal physical activity such as periodic standing, walking, sitting and the use of basic motor skills.
  • Some continuous physical exertion required such as moving, changing, and setting up for programs or community spaces; shelving, shifting, packing and unpacking boxes.
  • Ability to move materials and supplies (up to 50lbs)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend and stretch to reach high and low shelves

Mental

  • Perform routine tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail on a computer

Working Hours

  • BPL is open seven days a week and schedules include regular evenings and weekends
