Hours of Work:

This position starts with part-time hours (20 hours/week) From April 1- June30, 2023 transitioning into a Full-time position (37.5 hours/week) for the duration of the position (July 1- Sept 8,2023) with the exception of statutory holidays and program closures.

This position has the possibility to be extended into a full-time position hours, plus benefits) in the Out-of-School Care program.

Between 19-30 years of age:


  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or under the Immigrant and Refugee

Protection Act during the employment term with a valid Social Insurance Number and legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance to BC legislation and regulations

  • 20 hours of V.I.H.A. approved child related training, education, or certifications
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite, graphic design, social media and database registration systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while working in an open workspace/ noisy public access point; ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Effective analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Current First Aid/CPR and a clean Criminal Records Check


 Preferred
  • Class 4 Drivers License or willing to obtain no later than June 30, 202
  • Minimum 3 years previous camp experience and proven supervisory skills

Rate of Pay:
$23.00/hour


To offer an outstanding program for children ages in our community, the
Summer Camp Program Coordinator will work within a team of staff and be responsible for childcare, programming and parent contact/ liaison.

This position helps with the organization, leadership, administration, and implementation of the Oaklands Community Association's Summer Camp Program which services children in Oaklands and the Greater Victoria Area.

The position works in partnership with the Out-of-School Care + Youth Program Manager and reports to and is supervised by the Co-Executive Director/Childcare Programs.


Primary Responsibilities

Supervision:

  • Adhere to BC Child Care Licensing standards of care and remain compliant to Licensing requirements
  • Oversee the program hiring of camp staff and onsite training dates; create staff schedule and substitute leader roster/contact information; oversee and approve staff timesheets
  • Coordinate all weekly programs including booking of facilities, transportation, and visiting programs; create and distribute weekly calendars for families
  • Support in the supervision and guidance of children during daily activities, field trips and special activities; ensure all health & safety procedures are being followed
  • Responsible for currency of children files including the emergency card information and pictures for enrolled children
  • Establish and maintain good communication with children's families and community agencies involved in children's development
  • Report and file daily attendance and documentation of any incidents or accidents and maintenance of medication forms as required
  • Serve as a liaison between Activity Leaders. OSC + Youth Program Manager, and Co-Executive Director/Childcare Programs.
  • Support mentor practicum student and/or volunteers within program areas
  • Be a positive role model in all areas

Room Accountabilities:

  • In partnership with Summer Camp Activity Leaders, this role will create and implement weekly calendars based on interests and planning schedule
  • Support Activity Leaders with engaging with children and other leaders in implementation of crafts, games or other activities planned for the day
  • Assist staff in building children's social/interpersonal skills and selfesteem by establishing routines and positive guidance policies that allow children to feel secure, comfortable and safe
  • Maintain supplies and equipment; create weekly supply shopping list within outlined budget and purchasing supplies, including lunch and snack supplies for the week
  • Organize a driver for campers as necessary to facilitate out trips
  • Willingness to work in program and assist in housekeeping duties as situation necessitates

  • Be familiar with VIHA Licensing Guidelines and all of the OCA's Policies and Procedures
  • Be informed of children registered in the program, including specific information such as allergies and custody issues
  • Be a positive role model for all children and staff, using appropriate language and modeling in all areas
  • Research and implement new and innovative program ideas
  • Plan and facilitate team meetings
  • Facilitate positive and professional parent/staff and children/staff relations
