Desired Results of the Position:

  • Provide strong leadership and effective operational management of the Students'
Association (SA) Athletic Department's Recreation Program.

  • Development of an Athleticfocused Recreation Program that values its members' feedback; that is committed to researching and implementing new and inclusive sport recreation activities and programming reflective of our student body and membership as a whole.

Nature and Scope:

The Manager, Athletic Operations-Recreation oversees the day-to-day operations of the SA Recreation Program within the Athletics department.

They are responsible for providing strong and effective leadership and guidance for all recreation staff members, which would include the following:
Campus Recreation Coordinator, Part-time Recreation staff, Camp Counsellors and Camp Coordinators.

The incumbent must demonstrate a strong personal commitment to the mission and goals of the SA and the Athletics department while carrying out their assigned responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies.

The Manager, Athletic

Operations-Recreation is tasked with developing a fun, innovative, inclusive and diverse Recreation program that not only engages the interests of current students, staff and faculty but also creates an opportunity for community connection as well.

Additionally, the Manager, Athletic Operations-Recreation will be expected to contribute to the success of the Athletics Department through their collaboration with all other team leaders and staff members within the department.


Job Duties:

  • Direct and lead a comprehensive Campus Recreation program that ensures compliance with safety and risk management, liability policies and procedures and which follows generally accepted recreation principles.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of all fulltime, part
- time recreation staff, camp counsellors and camp coordinators.

  • Create equitable, supportive, inclusive, diverse, enjoyable recreation programming and extracurricular activities, intramural leagues, camps, tournaments and special events through the optimization of Athletics and SA spaces.
  • Develop and maintain an effective registration process that facilitates online registration, waiver and payment completion.
  • Work in collaboration with the SA marketing department on the development and marketing of intramural leagues, camps, tournaments and special events throughout the year.
  • Responsible for developing a comprehensive Recreation Operations Manual and updating it.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining of an annual budget for the Recreation department.
  • Ensures the recreation facilities and equipment are clean, safe and wellmaintained.
  • Monitors equipment policies and usage.
  • Responsible for the purchasing of all recreation equipment.
  • Responsible for managing equipment inventory.
  • Liaise with the Marketing Department to ensure the Recreation portion of the SA website is accurate and uptodate.
  • Preparation, verification and submission of accurate parttime payroll.
  • Responsible for collaborating with the Campus Recreation Coordinator in the development, organization and implementation of a comprehensive summer camps program utilizing multiple SA spaces.
  • Research industry trends to develop new and innovative camp programming.
  • Develop, track and analyze key performance indicators and quality assurance goals of programming to monitor program success.
  • Assist with monitoring general member and guest activity within the athletics environment to ensure a safe environment.
  • Serves as the main point of contact; responds to customer service inquiries and concerns in a timely manner as they relate to recreation programming.
  • Aids in the opening and closing of various aspects of the facility on evenings and weekends, vacation coverage and offers leadership support during special events.
  • Oversee a smooth transition and flow between scheduled events and/or programs.
  • Communicates program information (ie. feedback, operational concerns, marketing campaigns, schedules) to senior manager and/or others as required.

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Recreation Management, plus a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience with direct sportspecific recreation programming and management (preferably in a postsecondary environment).
  • Demonstrated experience in budget development and management.
  • Must have previous demonstrated experience with respect to hiring, training, coaching and disciplining staff.
