Position Available : Flight Training and Standards Pilot, Fixed Wing (FW)

Position Status : Full-Time ; Contract Non-Union ; 24 months

Location : 5310 Explorer Drive, Mississauga , Ontario

R eporting To : Chief Pilot , Fixed Wing

Position Summary :

As a member of the Ornge Air FW Flight Operations Team, reporting to the Chief Pilot , the Fligh t Training and Standards Pilot , FW will be responsible for conducting the various flight and ground training programs, as well as the validation of these programs through in-flight observation and standards ev aluations. The Fligh t Training and Standards Pilot , FW will work closely with the Fixed Wing Flight Operations management team as a liaison with front line staff while desig ning and successfully implementing key standards with measurable improvement outcomes. The Flight Training and Standards Pilot , FW will use their knowledge and experience to support front line mentorship, quality improvement and development initiatives across the ope rational spectrum.

The position will be located at the Head Office in Mississauga. Regular and routine travel to all Ornge Fixed wing bases as well as external training facilities is a requirement of the position, totaling approximately days per year.

Responsibilities :

The Flight Training and Standards Pilot , FW will be an Ornge fixed wing Captain who will, in support of the Chief Pilot, FW , provide training to and monitor standards compliance in the Fixed Wing Pilot group . The Flight Training and Standards Pilot , FW duties include:

  • Conducting regular training, line checks and pilot proficiency checks to manage procedures, conformity and professional con duct of pilots at all Ornge fixed wing bases;
  • Conducting training as required in all subjects contained in the Flight Crew Training Manual and other training as required by the Chief Pilot;
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of and assist with the development and maintenance of the SOP s , Checklists, QRH and in accordance with CAR S , CASS, the COM and the POH ;
  • Manage regular inspection s or audits on each aircraft or library to ensure compliance with internal, regulatory and stakeholder requirements;
  • Assist in committee meetings, investigations, and other matters relating to this type and in general act as techni cal advisor;
  • Provide input on pilot training and scheduling regarding priorities, crew composition and individual progress ion for matters such as classification upgrades, pilot proficiency or disciplinary action;
  • Ensure attendance at all training is tracked and verified and all records are completed fully and properly entered in the training records;
  • Assist with the preparation and amending the training requirements in the Flight Crew Training Manual; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
  • Hold a valid unrestricted ATPL ( A ) including valid instrument rating;
  • Experience in commercial flight operations (CAR 703 and/or 704), including instructional (SIM/FTD) experience;
  • Transport Canada Approved Check Pilot or possesses the qualifications to be sponsored as an ACP
  • Management experience/training;
  • Has experience on a PC12/47E ;
  • EMS or equivalent air ambulance experience;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication s skills, including the ability to write, edit and maintain Training Programs, Manuals, and other technical documents;
  • Self-motivated, able to manage deadlines effectively;
  • Strong organizational skills and project management skills;
  • Considers high-quality work the norm; and
  • Ability to work as part of a dynamic team of professionals.
