As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Quality, Patient Safety & Accreditation Director or designate, the Manager is responsible for the leadership and quality improvement project management of strategic quality, population-based system redesign and patient safety site-wide initiatives across various programs and services.

These initiatives or projects may involve reviews of practices, patient safety events, procedures and systems leading to the enhanced integration of services, better service delivery, improved patient/family satisfaction and the development of new programs and their evaluation.

The Manager works collaboratively with a variety of internal and external partners to plan, implement, coordinate, and monitor program-specific, population-based quality and performance improvement programs, focusing on maintaining an environment of continuous improvement and culture of safety to ensure cross-site alignment with PHSA vision, mandate and strategic directions.


What you'll do

  • Provides mentorship within the Developmental Pediatrics Resident's Quality Improvement/Patient Safety project (a requirement of graduation from the Dev Peds Residency Program).
  • Leads the planning, implementation and evaluation of key projects related to PHSA's Integrated Quality and Safety Strategy across all PHSA programs in collaboration with the PHSA Quality, Patient Safety & Accreditation Director.
  • Supports and leads quality improvement and patient safety related initiatives across PHSA programs.
  • Provides oversight and work direction to PHSA's quality and safety leaders in support of delivering and implementing high quality projects and initiatives.
  • Contributes to developing key strategic priorities for Quality and Patient Safety at PHSA.
  • Provides leadership, mentorship and facilitation in program identified process improvement initiatives, utilizing appropriate Quality Improvement Methodologies such as Lean, Quality Improvement Science, Design Thinking and Change Management skills. Oversees the development of project charters, budgets plans, monitoring timelines and key deliverables. Consults with partners.
  • Collaborates with identified internal and external partners, staff, medical staff and patients/families on identified program and PHSA wide initiatives.
  • Manages a diversity of related projects of varying scope in a complex and changing multidisciplinary environment and with a diversity of partners. Maintains responsibility for ensuring that programs and related projects are completed in adherence to project protocols/ charters/ agreements, timelines, applicable organizational and ethical policies and procedures, and pertinent privacy legislation.
  • Leads and directs staff assigned to support various quality, safety, risk, and performance improvement activities, initiatives, and programs. Provides leadership to staff and team members through coaching, guiding and modeling key behaviours/strategies, encouraging dialogue and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to work issues. Fosters an atmosphere which promotes and encourages employees to realize their maximum potential and encourages growth and belonging. Conducts employee performance reviews and completes appraisals for assigned staff. Recruits, hires and onboards new employees.
  • Works with program and health authoritywide staff to develop, implement, and evaluate indicators of quality outcomes and performance; prioritize quality initiatives based on detailed analysis, program functions, needs and performance measurement system; plan, develop and implement Patient Safety and Quality Improvement education, initiatives and materials including evaluation and sustainment tools.
  • Participates in accreditation planning across PHSA and supports programs with their accreditation readiness as needed.
  • Proactively ensures program staff are educated regarding regulatory issues, new statutes and/or guidelines, and safety, quality, and risk management activities.
  • Continually works towards eliminating Indigenousspecific racism and hardwiring Indigenous cultural safety and humility across their program area, PHSA, and the health system.

What you bring

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Health Administration, related health discipline or other relevant area and a minimum of five years of clinical practice in the program area or an equivalent level of education, training, and experience. Additional experience in leadership and quality and safety or professional practice.
