About the Position:

The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring client's expectations for data quality, reporting and project scheduling requirements are met.

The Project Manager will also require the preparation of bottle requests, login of sample submissions to the LIMS system as well as drinking water support, including all aspects of logistics and reporting adverse results according to the regulation.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact for assigned clients and cash accounts;
  • Providing any required sampling and handling information/instructions to clients and acquire the ability to make test method recommendations;
  • Preparing Invoices and processing payments;
  • Preparing complete sample bottle request forms;
  • Coordinating all aspects of new client submissions;
  • Reviewing and finalizing all aspects of client submission reports;
  • Communicating any special client requests to Laboratory staff;
  • Entering and updating client account information into the LIMS and SE Admin systems for Waterloo Hub locations;
  • Review, follow up and communicate current TAT with staff and clients;
  • Provide assistance and backup to the Project Manager responsible for Drinking Water including:
  • Reporting drinking water exceedances as per MOE/MOH accepted protocols;
  • Drinking Water account setup including distribution of all required forms and instructions;
  • Drinking Water Login and sample entry review;
  • Set up of custom chain of custodies;
  • Backup for drinking water uploads;
  • Perform sample login and reception support and labelling assistance as required;
  • Adhere to ALS Client Services Guidelines as provided in the Client Service Manual and National and Local Standard Procedures including Quality procedures;
  • Maintain a regular schedule of client visits when possible, including the coordination and participation of lunch and learns, client events, and report client feedback and activities to the Client Services Manager in a timely manner;
  • Knowledge of ALS literature including price lists, statement of qualifications, onepagers, and blogs;
  • Daily interaction with ALS clients both on the phone and in person;
  • Provide assistance and backup to the Project Managers in managing their client portfolios;
  • Act as a backup for Login and Office Reception as required;
  • Issue rechecks and corrective action reports for work submitted;
  • Ensure timely completion and transmission of final and draft client reports;
  • Provide direction, information and specifics on client samples and projects to appropriate laboratory, sample management and office services staff;
  • Maintain communication with laboratory staff on general lab turnaround times and relay appropriate information to clients;
  • Provide information to clients on branch services, capabilities, qualifications, turnaround times, etc., as required;
  • Coordinate smaller client accounts and profiles as designated by the Client Services Manager
  • Other duties as assigned by the Client Services Manager;
  • Ensure adherence and observe established procedures and policies (safety, quality, employment and technical);
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry (or related Science discipline);
  • At least 1 year of experience in Environmental Chemistry or related field;
  • Valid unrestricted license for personal vehicle use applicable in the province/territory.
  • No major driving violations and no more than two minor violations/incidents.
Physical Demands

  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs and carry for short distances;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
