Reporting to either the Manager of Employee & Labour Relations or the Manager of Strategic HR Partnerships, the Employee and Labour Relations Advisor is responsible for providing day-to-day support across two assignments within the Employee and Labour Relations department - Employee and Labour Relations and Strategic HR Partnerships.

The Employee and Labour Relations Advisor is often the first point of contact for leaders, assisting with less-complex enquiries and ensuring that issues are appropriate acknowledged, triaged, recorded, assigned and ultimately actioned.

They participate in and/or lead research, assist with various projects, and oversee the collection, retention and reporting of departmental metrics.

Rate of Pay:
$33.64 per hour - $42.05 per hour

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per weel

How you'll contribute:

  • Interpreting, clarifies, and provides intent of collective agreement language, precedents, established practices, employment legislation, and LHSC policies to departmental leaders
  • Assisting with the administraion of grievances and other staff complaints where accountability rests with the HR Business Parter or Labour Relations
  • Primary contact for Operations and other partners with inquiries and concerns, escalating complex matters as applicable
  • Arranging and preparing for Step 2 grievance meetings, inclduing ensuring all relevant documentation and information is accessible
  • Confirming the employee or labour relations issue/concern being requested by the Leader or department; detailing relevant and background information and providing a response outlining potential risks/abilities (e.g. negative impacts or precedents for LHSC)
  • Providing support throughout the union certification process as required
  • Conducting research and participating in the collective bargaining process as required

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or other as acceptable to Hospital in conjunction with Human Resources Management Certificate
  • Minimum two (2) years recent, related job experience
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of collective agreements, labour and employment legislation
  • Problemsolving and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient knowledge of labour relations processes (e.g. grievance, mediation, arbitration and negotiation)
  • Proficient knowledge of human resource principles (e.g. progressive discipline, performance management, payroll, benefits, compensation and recruitment and selection)
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, PeopleSoft and Workbrain
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient family centred care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
