Position Summary:

Working closely with the Chair, the Manager

  • Academic Programs will provide academic leadership and management to all programs in the School of Public Safety & Behavioural Studies and School of Recreation & Environmental Studies within the Faculty of Applied Arts and Health Sciences. The Manager, Academic Programs is responsible, with supervision and assistance from the Chair, for daily operating matters and academic operational planning/management within the schools ensuring that the semestertosemester goals are met.
This will be based at the King Campus and may be required to work at other campuses as needed.

Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Conducts orientation and onboarding for all new faculty members at the beginning of each semester, which may include workshops on classroom management, Seneca policies and procedures, and an introduction to the school's critical dates and processes.
  • Responsible for providing support to adjunct faculty in delivering curriculum and carrying out projects in the classrooms and lab activities by determining needs, hiring, supervising, and mentoring adjunct faculty.
  • Provides ongoing support and feedback, regular evaluation sessions, and determines the professional development needs of those being supervised, under the supervision of the Chair.
  • Prepares and administers the processes for hiring new fulltime and contract faculty.
  • Coordinates and facilitates PT faculty assignments, working with scheduling, faculty, coordinators, assistant, and Chair.
  • Management of instructional supplies, and experiential learning facilities (labs/gym spaces). Including inventory and scheduling of operational use of facilities.
  • Support and supervision of placements and practicums working with relevant coordinators (see below).
  • Management and assistance to applied research and grant projects within the School, including financial administration and project management.

Student Support

  • Chair the Academic Integrity Committees and the Student Academic Appeal Committees.
  • Schedule and arrange Student-Faculty Council (SFC) meetings on a semester basis.
  • Responsible for the development and delivery of activities related to student success and persistence including providing guidance.
  • Acts as a resource for students in the facilitation of issues that cannot be dealt with by faculty or Field Placement Coordinators and will advise students concerning means available to address their needs including appropriate support services as required.

Strategic Planning and Program Development

  • Attends Faculty and Admin. team meetings to support the discussions about the direction of the Schools and the Faculty.
  • In collaboration with the Chair, monitor and report on faculty allocation, resource allocation, and academic performance of the Schools and the Faculty.
  • In collaboration with the Chair and faculty:
  • Develops new strategic industry partnerships and projects.
  • Develops new program proposals and curricula for program launch and redevelopment.
  • Works closely with Seneca International on existing and proposed joint ventures/partnerships etc.
  • Collaborates with Academic coordinators, Chairs, and staff within the school and across the college on new initiatives to enhance student success, retention, and program quality.
  • Works with the chair and program areas to support Program Advisory Committees (PACs). Recruit and onboard new members in the school's program areas.
  • Schedules PAC meetings and work with Chair, Coordinator, and PAC members on scheduling meetings, agendas, and record keeping.
  • Collaborates with Academic coordinators, Chairs, and staff within the school and across the college to enhance student success and program quality, enrolment planning, capital projects, and academic initiatives.

Supervision of placement/practicum staff

  • Establishes and maintains field standards and processes that uphold the reputation of the programs and the College, working with relevant staff in facilitating field placement /seminar observations and/or reviewing course materials such as field placement guides and related forms.
  • Ensures field placement opportunities and documentation align to MCU vocational outcomes, code of ethics, and standards of practice
  • Encourages and facilitates the use of available technologies for record keeping which include ensuring field materials are accessible online to field supervisors and students.
