As a student at PCL, you will get the opportunity for challenging work assignments in a supportive work environment which promotes personal and professional growth. We are currently seeking Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering Students to work in either our Integrated Construction Technology Department or our Estimating Department. The successful candidates will be working in our Edmonton, AB office. We are looking for students available for 4, 8 or 12-month terms starting in September 2024.

Responsibilities

Integrated Construction Technology (ICT):

  1. Learn to model and navigate through Revit to assist with quantity takeoffs.
  2. Review specifications and drawings to ensure necessary details for a scope of work are being uploaded by sub-trades.
  3. Use Revit to look for clashes between trade models.
  4. Attend construction site-visits for exposure to the construction process and information on what is required on site for different projects.
  5. Help with editing of PDF files such as site plans and mechanical drawings using Bluebeam.
  6. Utilize different technology devices such as 3D laser scanning and drone flights to support the ICT specialists.

Estimating:

  1. Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings.
  2. Assist in building the estimate by formatting and organizing takeoffs.
  3. Review specifications and drawings to ensure all details are captured.
  4. Call trades to discuss scope of work and confirm bidding status.
  5. Help with bid closings and dropping off bids.
  6. Attend construction site-visits for exposure to the construction process, understanding the challenges faced on site and acquire "lessons learned" from operations team.
  7. Attend pre-bid site visits to gather information for project logistic planning, as well as assessing risks and opportunities, through assessment reports, to build a more accurate estimate.
  8. Setting up and updating information on Smartbidnet.
  9. Reviewing changes to drawings and specs pre and post tender.
Qualifications

Integrated Construction Technology (ICT) & Estimating:

  • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with multiple team members
  • Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
  • Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications, and drafting.
  • Knowledge of Revit, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office will be beneficial.
  • Access to a clean, reliable vehicle.
