The Canadian Heritage Arts Society, a non-profit society, operates the College.


The college has a strong community of alumni, donor, and volunteer support, and has been highly effective in its management of COVID-19 protocols, ensuring that students, faculty and staff are safe, and that the college could return to in-person learning in September 2020 and continue to be successful in its mandate of providing the highest caliber or performing arts training.


THE POSITION


Reporting to the Director of Education, the Student Support Coordinator ensures timely support to students in 4 areas: General Student Guidance/Advice, Mental Health & Wellbeing, General Academic Support, and Learning Needs Support.

They will liaise with the Director of Education to provide front line student support services including, but not limited to, acting as a first point of contact for students seeking general advice; assisting with the Peer Mentor program; supporting the Student Rep training; documenting learning needs; and contributing to the College's commitment to upholding values of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility through development and implementation of strategies with the Director of Education.


ACCOUNTABILITY & REPORTING STRUCTURE
The Student Support Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Education. Additionally, they will work closely with various College departments, including the Managing Artistic Director and Registrar.

OVERVIEW OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report directly to the Director of Education for the college's wellness and academic support provisions.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Education ensure safe spaces and the respectful and fair treatment of students.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of the college, and support the Director of Education in the implementation of such policies as appropriate.
  • Support the Director of Education on integrating equity, diversity, inclusivity and accessibility into the educational provisions and ethos.
  • Contribute to the development of the student support provisions, led by the Director of Education.
  • Work with Director of Education on Mentorship Project Administration
  • Coordinate the annual awards and scholarship ceremony event with support of administrative staff.
  • Assist in the training and implementation of the peer mentor and student rep initiatives at the college.
  • Assist the Director of Education and staff in delivering the student Orientation week events
  • Attend student productions and educational ceremonies as needed.
  • Attend internal acting, voice and dance showcases when possible to stay in tune with the student learning journey.
  • Student Guidance/Advice_
  • Provide first point of call for general student guidance needs.
  • Direct students to relevant supports and resources.
  • Assist and advise students with booking a meeting with the Director of Education.
  • Mental Health & Wellbeing_
  • Implement and coordinate Mental Health and Wellness resources as determined by the Director of Education, and provide support and advice as the first port of call to students.
  • Support students in crisis by ensuring access to the appropriate academic and professional resources, and in extreme cases request emergency support funds via the Student Aid Committee.
  • Coordinate and facilitate delivery of the Wellbeing and Personal Professional Development course with support from the Director of Education.
  • With the Director of Education, implement support strategies and clear guidance for accessing supports for out of province and international students such as documentation and ICA Diversity Scholarships (*external to CCPA)
  • Help coordinate student life events such as the soup night team.
  • Oversee and facilitate the Student Council.
  • General Academic Support_
  • Provide support tutorials and/or seminars to students in academic conventions and protocols such as: mind mapping, structuring essays/reports/presentations, basic research strategies, referencing.
  • Learning Needs Support_
  • Support the Director of Education with implementing teaching strategies for neurodiverse learners, and working towards a universal learning model at the college.
  • Support the Director of Education in the agreement and implementation of student accommodated learning strategies and provisions.
  • Provide support tutorials to students requiring help in areas such as time management and work
