Margaret's School (SMS) is Western Canada's only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations.

Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades St. Margaret's School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Program.


As the Junior Kindergarten Coordinator, you would be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Junior Kindergarten Education program including maintaining regulatory standards, policies and guidelines outlined in the B.C.

Child Care Licensing Regulation.


The Junior Kindergarten Coordinator is key to the realization of the philosophy and practice of the program, while maintaining alignment with the mission and vision of the school.

This includes the enhancement and implementation of the Junior Kindergarten curriculum.

The Junior Kindergarten Coordinator ensures a stimulating and safe learning environment that supports the student's cognitive, physical, and social-emotional growth and development.

The Junior Kindergarten Coordinator will guide the learning, care, and well-being of the students in the program.


The Junior Kindergarten Coordinator is responsible for maintaining all documentation with respect to curriculum, each child's development, as well as maintaining ongoing communication with parents.

Providing daily supervision of the educators on the team, the Junior Kindergarten Coordinator acts as a role model and mentor by leading professional development and coaching in the areas of curriculum development, teaching and learning.

As such, this person will display a strong understanding of BC Early Learning Framework, inquiry-based learning, and learning through play.


The Junior Kindergarten Coordinator reports to the Vice Principal, Primary Years Programme and works collaboratively with other members of the Senior Leadership Team and the ECE educators.

As a member of the school community, the Junior Kindergarten Coordinator will participate in meetings and events that promote the school and the early learning program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Junior Kindergarten learning space and program delivery.
  • Uphold and implement policies in alignment with standards set by licensing regulations.
  • Manage all documentation including developmental observations, attendance, maintenance of children's files (e.g. health and social records, parents' schedules).
  • Ensure all licensing requirements have been met in preparation for Ministry Inspections.
  • Ensure that practices and procedures to safeguard the health and safety of children are followed, as required in the Child Care Licensing Regulation.
  • Attend faculty meetings and professional development days.
  • Support the Vice Principal, Primary Years Programme with ECE staffing.
  • Lead and supervise other ECEs, ECE-Assistants, and Responsible Adults.
  • Assign responsibilities in accordance with an approved budget.
  • Liaise with the Vice Principal, Primary Years Programme, Student Services Team, Admissions/Enrolment, and other educators or departments on matters related to the students and/or parents to ensure highquality processes and experiences.
  • Greet prospective families and provide them with information about the Junior Kindergarten program.
  • Assess incoming/new students for developmental readiness for school entry and provide written reports to the Enrolment office for new applicants.
  • Attend Open Houses and market the Junior Kindergarten program.
  • Actively participate in SMS staff activities.
  • Participate in short
