Position Description


The INTREPID Lab is seeking a full-time, contract (one year) Manager responsible for leading people and projects related to clinical addictions research, and in collaboration with CAMH clinical outpatient programs.

The INTREPID Lab is aligned with CAMH's strategic goals of improving care for the patients of today and innovating care for the patients of tomorrow.

Using a Learning Health Systems approach, the INTREPID Lab promotes excellence in the field of tobacco and vaping cessation and other substance use, as well as health behaviour change, with a focus on using digital technology to advance interventions.

This position will manage a variety of initiatives spanning our breadth of activities that include:

clinical research projects, including clinical trials, other research projects, program implementation, and design and integration of technology to advance each of these.


One of the projects that this role will manage is the development and validation of a multi-year (ending April 2025) Virtual Integrated Collaborative Care (VICC) model using a technology-enabled platform to support to support individuals with concurrent severe opioid use disorder and a mental health diagnosis.

This project will include oversight of both clinical research (e.g., care navigator, working with medical and other allied health professionals) and technology components (e.g., REDCap, WebEx Teams) and will require collaboration across several CAMH teams.

The manager will also support other INTREPID Lab projects as required.

Responsibilities


Reporting to the Director at the INTREPID Lab, and working in collaboration with other Directors, Scientists, and Managers, the Manager will be responsible for the planning, development, and coordination of all aspects of your assigned projects, including monitoring the deliverables of each team to ensure on-time and on-budget performance.

The Manager will provide leadership in a dynamic environment, leading an inter-professional team and will be responsible for the identification and development of educational requirements for staff, providing administrative supervision to members of the team, and for the implementation of evidence based practices.

The Manager will be expected to liaise with other departments such as Finance, IMG, Procurement, Clinical Programs, People and Experience, Legal, Research Ethics, and Research Operations, Services & Support (ROSS).

The manager will also work with external stakeholders to design, lead or execute all necessary steps of the project, and in so doing, effectively manage the financial, capital and human resources.


Operational activities include but not limited to: managing human resources, including recruitment and performance management; ongoing team planning; initiative implementation and evaluation; budget planning and monitoring; and oversight of project deliverables and reporting to the funder (narrative and financial).

The Manager will also support the strong academic mandate of the department, which includes a focus on both the educational experience of trainees, and the ongoing professional development of staff.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in management, or project management in a health care environment is required
  • Experience and knowledge of research approaches and protocols, including health behaviour change and clinical trial research
  • Demonstrated experience with project management and program planning, including working with external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the key considerations and processes that are essential to clinical research, education, and knowledge translation
  • Superior analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to work under pressure, and to work on a high volume of diverse projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgetary and financial data (e.g., reading financial reports and preparing budgets)
  • Human resource management practices in a unionized environment is required
  • Demonstrated ability to critically analyse, evaluate, and resolve problems; and the ability to initiate ideas to move projects forward
  • Strong communication skills, including written communication
