General Accountabilities

The position will focus on managing geo-environmental studies for Hydro One construction projects as part of the Land Assessment and Remediation (LAR Team, as well as managing emergency spill response as part of the Spills Team. The position requires knowledge and experience planning and implementing environmental site assessments, geotechnical investigations, hydrogeological investigations, remediation, and excess soil management. An ideal candidate will be able to support the project team by managing soil and groundwater studies, preparing soil and water management plans, and supporting project execution monitoring at key stages of the project lifecycle. The candidate will be a member of the on-call team for emergency spill response. The candidate will develop geo-environmental scopes of work, prepare tender documents, determine budget requirements, and participate on project teams and other working groups. The candidate will manage environmental consultants assigned to their projects, assist in data base management, and provide training and technical assistance where required.

Selection Criteria:

Education:

University degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science or Civil Engineering- related disciplines.

Accreditation as a P. Geo. or P. Eng. is a preferred asset for this position, but not a requirement.

The successful candidate will have knowledge in the following areas:

Geo-environmental investigations: geotechnical, excess soil and hydrogeological.

Phase I and II environmental site assessment and remediation.

O. Reg. 406/19 On-Site and Excess Soil Management and

O. Reg. 153/04 Record of Site Condition

Federal and provincial environmental regulations.

Environmental due diligence for mergers and acquisitions of real estate assets.

Civil environmental topics such as subsurface drainage systems, oil water separators, overland flow principles, contaminant fate and transport modelling.

Spill response techniques and technologies.

Designated substance and hazardous material (DSHM) surveys, PCBs, mold, and asbestos abatement.

Electrical power system, transmission, and distribution equipment.

Contract process and documents, work plans, presentations, and technical reports.

Experience:

The successful candidate will have minimum of two years' experience assisting or managing the following areas:

Soil and groundwater sampling.

Geo-environmental investigations.

Phase I and II environmental site assessments and remediation.

Work plan, specification, and report preparation.

Technical report review.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

Communication skills, both oral and written.
