SUMMARY:

  • To coordinate, plan, promote & implement programs, special events & activities for Seniors based on project outline focusing on "Looking Forward" based on Newcomer Seniors' integration, learning and connecting with their surrounding new communities.
  • To provide program outreach.
  • To assist with the development of the centre's Seniors "Looking Forward" Program, Seniors Advisory Committee, and Civic Engagement Sub-Committee.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Plan and operate under the supervision of the Manager, Community Development the "Looking Forward" - Newcomer Seniors' integration, learning and connecting with their new surrounding communities program, special events and activities for seniors, youth and their families.


To develop and implement educational and culturally relevant programs and activities for seniors that will: bring awareness to the newcomer and settlement rights and issues for the seniors and youth, reduce social isolation and stigma by increasing Peer to Peer Engagement opportunities, increase seniors' youth Volunteer and Engagement capacity, promote healthy aging, develop and learn more about the issues affecting seniors in the settlement, newcomer communities especially in the Waterfront community.

Promoting safe spaces, seniors leadership skills and autonomy, increase access to cultural programming, increase participation in decision-making process and build a sense of community among the families of the Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre.

Responsible for the design and implementation of activities based on individual and group needs and interests.


To assist in community development and outreach and to act as a resource to community and families as they seek to identify their needs and to develop resources to meet these needs on an ongoing basis.


To assist seniors and their families in accessing multiple services, support, resources and to maintain active linkages with other resource centres and organizations.

To facilitate community involvement and encourage volunteers and seniors to assist in the programs and activities.


To develop, support, and evaluate leadership training opportunities and other civic engagement and creative skill-building activities for seniors and their families.

Promote the centre's activities at large.

To provide regular program reports and evaluation, documentation for all serious encounters.

Arrives for scheduled shifts on time.

Performs other program related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Certification or training in the performing arts issues or related human service discipline OR a combination OR equivalent related education and professional experience.

Experience working with seniors and families and demonstrated commitment to a community-based approach to service deliver.


Knowledge of multicultural communities, newcomer communities, women's issues, men's issues and demonstrated ability to work with persons of diverse backgrounds.

Knowledge of related community services.

Creative ability and understanding of seniors, behaviour management, program planning and group facilitation.

Coaching Certification an asset.

Ability to work well with volunteers and seniors and youth and encourage everyone's input.

Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Reference Check.

Certified in CPR and First Aid an asset.

Salary Scale:
$20.07/hr +4% vacation - Wage Grade - Step 1

This position is a unionized position with CUPE Local 2998.
