Company description


Get Your Drugs Tested (GYDT) is a non-profit harm reduction service in Vancouver, BC that provides free drug checking both in-person and by mail.

We perform 75% of BC's total testing and are one of the busiest drug checking services in the world.

Our site supports a diverse community of substance users by providing them with the information they need to make more informed decisions.

We've built a diverse team with background experience ranging from chemistry to passionately advocating for drug policy reform. We educate the community by sharing substance information, safer consumption practices, advice and resources. Our organization is hiring as we expand our service hours and implement a mobile testing unit. Through expanding, we are hoping to reach more people and support those with limited access to harm reduction service.

Job description

What roles you will hold
This position will start on-site as one of our harm reduction support workers. This role involves taking and tracking samples. You will also provide safer consumption supplies, information and education. We will provide you with training on our spectrometer to acquire your drug checking technician certification. With this, you can then begin developing more in-depth experience on the machine.

What this role will develop into

Responsibilities on-site
Receive, process and log all samples coming into the site with careful handling and clear labelling.

Log and distribute requested supplies to clients as needed. Take time for informative education and harm reduction messaging.

Perform daily data entry and limit errors by surveying completed data.

Use an FTIR spectrometer and immunoassay test strips to check drugs.

Obtain results with a high degree of accuracy and deliver them clearly to clients.

Collaboratively complete daily site cleaning and accessory tasks.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Experience


We require at minimum university level chemistry experience
OR two years experience in a harm reduction role or working directly with people who use drugs (PWUD)/people in recovery.

Class 5 licence is an asset.

Salary:
$20.00-$25.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
We have a communicable disease plan in place. Our staff perform daily cleaning, wear masks and follow social distancing protocols. We strictly limit visitors into our site without approval.
