JOB PURPOSE:
  • The Managed Alcohol Program (MAP) Support Worker will be responsible for implementing the day
  • to
  • day operation of the MAP including the brewing process, data collection, and facilitation of programming. The support worker will be the main point of contact for participants in the program, various departments within Boyle Street, and external stakeholders. The support worker will be responsible for completing initial screening intakes, as well as conducting assessments throughout the program. The support worker will facilitate supported referrals for participants needing support in various areas both within Boyle Street programs and externally and will help participants meet their basic needs and goals.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete intakes with community members who would be eligible to be selected as a participant for the program
  • Educate and inform community members about the full array of services within the organization, Including cultural supports
  • Update staff on the progress of the program and its participants
  • Ensure the MAP area is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all community members
  • Participate in service coordination between the various departments within Boyle Street
  • Ensure all client data collection and reporting are carried out in an efficient and timely manner
  • Assist participants in the daily operations related to brewing and program development
  • Help facilitate weekly peer review meetings and take detailed notes on topics
  • Conduct site visits with participants to external stakeholders
  • Assist in daily cleaning duties of the space
  • Maintain daily logs and progress reports
  • Accompany participants to appointments and advocate on their behalf
  • Ensure accessibility of program to participants regardless of barriers they may be facing (i.e. lack of transportation, cognitive/physical ability, etc)
  • Participate in cultural activities, Ceremony and daily smudge

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and a clean driver's abstract
  • Criminal Record and Child Intervention Checks (results will be reviewed on a case by case basis)

Skills, Abilities and Attitudes:

  • Ability to work in a highly stressful, ever changing environment
  • Must have excellent boundaries
  • Mental resiliency is key
  • Willingness to be flexible and to grow with a new program

Experience:

  • Strong understanding of harm reduction
  • Experience of networking with a range of partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience of working at all levels across teams and/or departments within an organization.
  • Experience of report writing is desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of poverty related issues, trends and services particularly within, but not limited to the urban Indigenous population is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience of Indigenous culture is essential.
