Street Lighting Technician

The Traffic Operations - Street Lighting unit operates and maintains street lights and other electrical infrastructure within the City of Edmonton to move traffic efficiently throughout the City.
The street lighting team assists other City departments with electrical engineering plan reviews, technical support during construction and acceptance of those assets upon completion.
The management of operations and maintenance of street lighting, alley lighting and other electrical assets on City ROW, in collaboration with City contractors is another important task being performed.
- Accurately records and maintains street light and electrical graphical and non graphical data information in accordance with applicable procedures and practices using the city GIS Portal and ARCGIS software
- Communicates and coordinates flow of information from developers/consultants/surveyors for retrieval of accurate street light asbuilt Information
- Responds to public inquiries from citizens and utility partners and internal city departments
- Creates maps, checks plans, works on O&M documentations and requests
- Communicate and coordinate with city contractors on different inquiries regarding scheduling and completion times
- Conducts site inspections, captures field notes and issues work orders
- Dealing with public and difficult requests, ULA plan reviews, inquiries and CCCs are with certain deadlines
- Conducts field survey and site inspections ensuring compliance to the City of Edmonton Road and Walkway Lighting Manual; assists in the condition assessment analysis and documentation preparation of the street lighting and secondary electrical or system damage reports
- Review and document Construction Completion Certificates (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificates (FAC) for streetlight and secondary electrical projects, and conduct field inspections for the above and for O&M work
- Performs other administrative functions such as filing plans and inquiries; and other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Completion of a two (2) year diploma in an appropriate (Electrical, Civil, Material; or similar) Engineering Technologist program
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in traffic operations, street lighting, traffic signal control, roadway construction or utility engineering
- Applicant(s) must be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET
- Demonstrated knowledge of ARCGIS or other GIS software; AutoCAD or other CAD software
- Experience with Google documents and Microsoft Office including Access
- Working knowledge of City of Edmonton Design and Construction Standards; the Canadian Electrical Code and EPCOR Customer Connection Guide
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and meet deadlines for multiple projects and possess well developed customer service
- Demonstrated ability to work under heavy workloads and tight timeliness
- Ability to communicate effectively and prepare written responses and reports
- Ability to work well under pressure, under short time lines and deal with difficult people
- Ability to utilize software for the completion of reports, records, etc.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and ensure all tasks are completed per work plan
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision as well as in a team environment
- Ability to critically analyze issues to make decisions, recommend viable and effective solutions and summarize and manage information
- Research and problem solving skills to gather required information, make decisions and develop recommendations
- Adaptability to manage changing priorities, complex information and issues in a timely manner
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
