Envision Mind Care is looking for a dynamic and engaging Addictions Counsellor with experience to be a part of our fast-growing team.

We are seeking a dependable and adaptable individual with strong interpersonal skills.

The primary responsibility of the Addictions Counsellor is to offer face to face counselling and support for our patients within the clinic.

We are seeking a full-time Addictions Counsellor with interest and experience in providing outpatient addictions services as part of a holistic mental health and well-being approach.

As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, you would provide addictions counselling services and support to our patients in our clinic located in Downtown Edmonton.


CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in Addictions, Social work or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered.
  • Registration with a College or Professional Association
  • Prominent substance abuse assessment, mental health assessment skills
  • Assessing substanceuse disorders, including differential assessment of concurrent disorder
  • Ability to use or have knowledge of clinical assessment tools;
  • Creating and maintaining confidential client reports on treatment services
  • Basic knowledge of community resources and case management skills;
  • Competency with computer skills, MS office, Electronic Medical Records (Accuro)
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Assessing process addictions
  • Participating in the development of a treatment plan with the client and the interdisciplinary health care team to address the clients' addiction
  • Providing therapeutic interventions such as Secondary Substance-Abuse Intervention Programs consistent with the established addiction assessment for the client in an individual or group setting
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the counselling program, interventions, and the client's progressing in resolving identified problems and movement toward personalized objectives
  • Facilitating educational activities and therapy group interventions (psychoeducational and process). Provide one on one counselling and run groups that support sober living, and relapse prevention, living skills, and other supportive measures to support healthy life management
  • Delivery of psychoeducational sessions such as addictionfree living
Areas such as trauma informed counselling, motivational interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will be considered assets.

Experience in assessment and discharge summaries, as well as report writing is vital in this position. You will take part in team treatment planning meetings and must be able to communicate effectively with peers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be either a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychologist
(ex. Must hold registration with the appropriate licensing body in Alberta Registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), or their governing body/The College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP))

  • Preference to those with experience within the last 3 years performing a range of clinical services including addictions assessment, treatment planning, individual therapy, and group therapy for an adult population
  • Current certification or willingness to obtain CPR Level C with AED
  • Familiarity with the DSM5 would be an asset
