Disability Management Coordinator

Primary Purpose

The Disability Management Coordinator will work with the Wellness team in the coordination and implementation of disability management programs within the University of Saskatchewan, which includes medical leaves, medical accommodations, return-to-work and stay-at-work programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of disability management principles, relevant laws and regulations, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nature of Work

The coordinator will be the primary contact and coordinator of resources to ensure consistency across multiple vendors and workplace programs including stay at work, disability management and return to work. The position will work with employees, leaders, Human Resources Strategic Business Advisors, service providers and union representatives (if applicable) on helping ensure a positive experience through our disability management programs. Additionally, the coordinator will work with the Wellness team in the promotion of wellness initiatives and resources to wholistically support the university's Be Well strategy.

Accountabilities

Disability Management Program Oversight:

Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of effective disability management programs and policies to support faculty and staff.

Case Management:

Serve as the primary point of contact in disability case management. Evaluate individual cases, facilitate interactive accommodation discussions and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Collaboration:

Collaborate with Human Resources and Safety Resources to ensure a coordinated approach to disability management. Work closely with leaders and Human Resources Strategic Business Advisors (HR SBAs) to provide guidance in supporting medical leaves, workplace accommodations and returns to work while maintaining operational needs.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion:

Working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds respecting various ways to lead healthy lifestyles. This includes consideration of supports which may be better suited to an individual or situation which are not necessarily viewed as traditional approaches within disability management. Supporting an environment where all employees feel supported when going through a disability claim process.

Employee Support:

Provide support and guidance to employees navigating the disability management process. Offer resources, information and referrals to external services when necessary to assist employees in accessing appropriate accommodations and support.

Data Management:

Maintain accurate and confidential records of disability accommodation requests, actions taken, and outcomes achieved. Utilize data and metrics to analyze trends, identify areas for improvement, and make recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of disability management initiatives.

Training and Education:

Develop and deliver training programs to increase awareness and understanding of disability management policies, procedures, and best practices among employees, supervisors, and managers.

Compliance:

Stay current on relevant legislation, regulations, and industry trends related to disability management. Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing disability accommodation and discrimination.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in a relevant field is required (eg. Health Sciences, Disability Case Management, Human Resources). Equivalent experience and professional development will be considered; Completion of or enrollment in Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Return to Work Coordinator or similar credential programs is preferred; Three-plus years' experience in disability management, vocational rehabilitation, or related field; Understanding of disability management best practices and principles and return to work practices; Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with employees and leaders at all levels of an organization; Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion; Experience working within unionized environments is an asset; Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with HRIS and case management software.
